The dressage foals were out in force on the 9th day of the
series which was held in Warwickshire at Moreton Morrell
College. High score of the day of 9.25 went to the scopey
bay filly Woodlander Querrida. This daughter of Quarterhit
(Quartergold x Sandro Hit) is out of the Elite mare Foxy Lady.
Foxy Lady is the half sister to licensed stallions Wesuvio and
Rockstar and is herself the dam of the Oldneburg and KWPN
approved Woodstock. Querrida’s canter was awarded a 9.5
for its engagement and uphill tendency. And her scopey and
supple walk was also awarded the same high score.
Also earning an Elite was the top colt foal - Don Divine owned
by Caroline Hunt. The well grown bay colt was bred by Wendy
McKay from the Wolkenstein daughter Wolke and by her own
stallion Don Dante. Don Dante is currently competing at Inter
2 with a Grand Prix debut on the cards. Don Divine scored an
incredible 9.5 for his frame, trot and canter with just some
tension in the walk pulling his overall average down.
A show jumping bred filly foal was awarded an Elite score
of 9. This was Carron Nicol’s daughter of Golden Eye out
of the young mare Falanta who already has placings on the
international circuit in young horse classes. Golden Eye is
a stunning liver chestnut who has jumped in international
classes at 5 and 6 and is a son of Caron’s other smart
performer Fantaland. The as yet unnamed filly was awarded a
perfect 10 for her balanced uphill canter.
Two very smart eventing foals filled the top colt and filly
slots. The Timolin sired colt Mayflower Thiamo was just 0.05
marks off an Elite. The evaluators felt he was an excellent
eventing type with excellent marks for his trot and canter of
9.25 with positive comments in regard of balance of length of
stride. Thiamo was bred by Dorothy Shackleton out of her May
Sherif daughter Mayflower Jo.
The top eventing filly foal was Tanzer Blue, by the
Thoroughbred advanced eventer Sula Blue with jumping blood
add by the Landtanzer daughter Startanzer. As would be
expected with that combination of bloodlines, the filly was
awarded her highest score for the canter which showed good
reach and balance.
In the sport pony category it was a 3 year Welsh Section B
colt who was the highest score. This was Fran Turner’s Dypool
Miami Reef, a son of Melau Montana. His trot showed good
reach and activity and he is destined for a dressage career
now.
