UK-bred youngsters were close-up
in achieving good Breed Quality &
Harmony scores with MILL BAMBU
and MARYSS XINNIA gaining 7/9 for
both categories. The best movement
scores were achieved by UK born
5yr black mare HERA NVW, bred by
Naomi Vance Webb and presented by a
professional handler, Hera NVW scored
an impressive Walk-8/9, Trot-7/9, and
Canter-8/9, despite her spectacular
crossbred foal interfering by showing
off his own paces around his mother.
Half-brother MAXIMO JLBA also
achieved 8/9 for his walk, delighting
his breeder Jo Beresford with the
success of her first homebred PRE to
gain Breeding Approval.
At the end of the Evaluations there
were 9 APTO Stallions and 19 APTO
Mares added to the PRE breeding herd
in the UK, and many owners travelled
home happily planning 2019 breeding
choices for their Apto youngsters.
The last 2018 British bred PRE foal was
born in September and so far there
are 60 foals notified to the studbook
with 50/50 sex ratio in a wide range of
colours including buckskin, palomino,
chestnut, creampearl, perlino and
cremello as well as the more usual
greys, bays and blacks.

This numerical drop from last year
is caused by several major breeders
having a foaling break, however
the welcome addition of some new
and very enthusiastic PRE breeders
producing their first foals in 2018 has
been a good counterbalance. This
lovely photo of the L M PRE Stud’s first
homebred foal, LMP AIDA, is a great
example of the quality foals with great
conformation and temperament that
are being produced across the UK by
our British PRE Studfarms.
