The eleventh and final leg was held at Northcote Stud in
Lancashire, where the fabulous indoor arenas were very
welcome in the unpredictable weather. It was at this venue
the leading three year old sport pony and eventer were
discovered.
The eventing three year old was Sunny Side Up. Owned and
bred by Karen Fryer he is a son of the British bred Supertramp
(Soliman de Hus x Rotspon) who was also the grandsire of
the Yearling Dressage Champion. The dam Cassandra van het
Bruno’s Hof qualified for the Regionals at Prelim and Novice
and is half sister to the dam of the licensed stallion Little
Joe. Her sire Grandeur is by Grannus and thus adding valuable
jumping blood to the pedigree. He was praised for his good
brain and excellent walk.
The top sport pony three year old was the very talented
young Connemara stallion Barrowby Lord Darcy. Owned and
bred by Tom McManus from Barrowby Stud, the colt really
impressed the judges with his loose jumping and has a very
exciting career ahead of him both as a sire and a sport horse.
Lord Darcy had been awarded a Higher First as a 2 year old.
He is by Drummore Sea Breeze, who is a son of Castle Gizmo,
2016 Connemara Sire of the year at HOYS. On the dam side
is the performance sire Ormond Oliver who has offspring
on European Pony teams. Also in the sport pony category
and awarded an Elite was the filly foal Godrics Donatella,
who scored excellent marks for her paces including a 9.5
for her canter. She combines the pedigrees of two of Sam
and Bev Brown’s top pony stallions – Danger and Ceasar 171.
Ceasar was our featured stallion in the August edition of the
magazine.
Another foal to be awarded an Elite was show jumping
prospect Millfield Bambalina. She is a daughter of European
Young Rider’s Medallist Balou Star, who has consistently
produced top foals during this year’s evaluation series.
Her dam is the homebred Millfield Cristina, by Cristallo I.
Bambalina was awarded an excellent 9.5 for her canter.
Heading the dressage entries was the June born son of Blue
Hors Fifty Cent – Nelson NS. Bred by Joanna Sutton he was
awarded a 9 for his big walk and a Higher First overall.
His dam is the Gribaldi daughter Zelma, who is
out of a Keur daughter of Elcaro. His sire Fifty
Cent was a premium stallion at the 2017 Danish
Warmblood licensing and is a son of Ingrid
Klimke’s Grand Prix ride Franziskus.
by Julie Matthews. He was awarded a 9 for
his trot which combined suppleness with
expression and a First Premium overall. His
dam Bella Vanuta is a daughter of the British
based PSG stallion Benvenuto.
