The second week of the 2018 Futurity series kicked off at
Writtle College in Essex where the Eventing stock pulled in
the highest scores of the day and Welsh blood was evident.
The only Elite of the day was awarded to a 2 year old gelding
– Cundlegreen Garanwyn. This smart youngster is half brother
to the CIC*** eventer Hartpury Sky is the Limit, sharing the
same Concorde dam Sammy Jo G. He is owned and bred by
Vanessa Francis who also owns his sire, the Welsh Section D
Felinfach Tory Boy, the sire of another Elite eventing prospect
– Cundlegreen Birthday Girl and a county standard WHP in his
own right. Garawyn’s score of 9.05 was to end up being the
highest 2 year old score of the entire series. The evaluators
were consistently impressed with him, awarding no score
lower than a 9 for paces or frame.
The highest scoring eventing foal was Pennie Wallace’s colt by
Chilli Morning out of her beautifully bred Rock King daughter,
Cornish Queen. In the last edition of the magazine we
interviewed Pennie who tipped this striking chestnut as one
of the best of her 2018 foal crop. He scored particularly well
for his canter, being awarded a 9.25 for the ground cover and
balance displayed.
The joint second highest score of the day was awarded to
Pippa Drew’s homebred yearling Hammerwood Flamingo, a
daughter of the Welsh Section B stallion Lemonshill Falcon
out of a mare by the late Hanoverian sire Rhondeo. The
dam Hammerwood Roulette was the highest scoring yearling
across the Futurity series in 2010. Following in her mother’s
footsteps, Flamingo was in fact the highest scoring yearling
across all disciplines this year, following on from 2017 where
she was Champion Foal and overall Youngstock Champion with
the SPSS. Her trot was particularly praised for it’s balance
and elasticity.
Lianne Verity’s good year continued when she presented the
top scoring show jumping foal of the day. This was Myspires
Triple Devotion, a black daughter of the stud’s homebred
stallion Myspires Revolution (Stanhopes Diddicoy x Cum
Laude Z). Her dam was also homebred and herself awarded a
Higher First Premium as a 2 year old. This was Myspires Triple
Stallone by the Silvio I son Stallone Quainton.
The highest dressage score of the day was awarded to the
Hanoverian filly foal Felamina, by Flammengold out of the
Elite mare Elice. Flammengold is featured in our stallion
spotlight in this edition and his daughter received particular
praise for her harmonious frame. The dam Elice has already
produced one very exciting stallion prospect in Felix who
recently passed his performance test in Germany.
