20 (Continued from page 18) was bald heads and our members went out to capture the essence of baldness. The results are on display in the Evergreen Restaurant. Everything from bald eagles to billiard balls made it into the frames. Our “field trip” took us to the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology. You’ll find some of our photos on our website at https://intofocus.smugmug.com/. Our theme for May is “farm animals”. We are well into spring by now, summer will be on us soon, and the farm fields are bursting with new life. We’ll be out photographing it for you. We are a friendly group of amateur photographers with equipment ranging from mobile phones and point-and-shoot cameras to fancy DSLR models. We share a common interest in photography as a hobby and we learn from each other. New members are always welcome. Our regular meetings are on the last Monday of every month. Pickleball Pickleball is a sport in which four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court and a net and rules similar to tennis, with a few modifications. This sport is for people of all ages who are looking for some fun, laughter, socialization and exercise. It’s easy to learn, but can be challenging for those with a competitive nature. All levels of skill invited. Pickleball equipment is provided. T S - M 2019 — V. 43, N. 9 Scrabble Our Scrabble group meets Thursdays from 1:00 pm to 3:45 pm at the tables in the Evergreen Hallway near the Library. Cost is $1.00 per visit. We play relaxed but challenging games using the Scrabble Dictionary 6 th Edition as our reference. Skill levels range from beginner to advanced. Come play at whatever table you wish. Enjoy a laugh, score a Bingo if you can, and learn a new word or two with other word lovers! Shuffleboard Come on out and join our group. Enjoy some gentle exercise, friendship and fun. Membership is available to all paid-up GWSA members for a $10 fee every six months. You also have the option of paying $1.00 per game. Register the first time you play. Beginners are welcome and instruction is available. The group plays Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Silvertones The Silvertones Choir was formed in 1980 and now boasts over 50 members. The mixed group of seniors share the love of singing - songs old and new. They also love to entertain with their singing and to spread cheer. The choir is now busy enjoying its annual sing-out program (with significant success) at local seniors and retirement homes and residences. There will be a special sing-out in the Auditorium of the Evergreen Centre during its Open House. The choir will sing from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. Here are the details of the rest of the May sing-outs which take us up to the end of our current year: May 10 - Arbor Trails, 32 Bayberry Drive, 2:30 pm May 17 - St. Joseph’s Outreach, 69 Huron Street, 2:00 pm May 24 - Eden House, Wellington County Road 29, Rockwood, 2:00 pm Our songs for this year are from across Canada as well as a segment from Canadian Country and Western heritage. The program begins with ‘I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing’, ‘The Journey’ and ‘Hymn to Freedom’. From across Canada, ‘When It’s Springtime in the Rockies’, ‘Blue Prairie’, ‘A Place to Stand’ and ‘Song for Mira’ feature. ‘Take Me Home Country Roads’ stands alone and is followed by Western songs`, ‘Cool Water’, ‘Don’t Fence Me In’, ‘The Gambler’, ‘Buttons and Bows’ and ‘Hey Good Looking’. Our Finale is beautiful renditions of ‘This Land is Your Land’ and ‘So Long, It’s Been Good to Know Ya’. The Silvertones Choir is currently operating at capacity. For further information, contact Doreen Muir. Skiing The ski season is over for 2019. For the 2020 ski season, it costs $10.00 plus HST to join the Everwhite Ski Club. You register and pay for the Downhill Ski Club at the front desk of the Evergreen Centre. It helps to own a 5-7 Pass purchased from Blue Mountain well before the start of the 2020 ski season. Every Monday we carpool by meeting at the lower Evergreen Parking Lot by the Enabling Garden at 8:00 am, drive to Blue Mountain and return to Guelph by 6:00 pm. Evergreen Snooker Club The Evergreen Snooker Club is composed of a group of active, friendly players with skill levels covering the full spectrum from learner/beginner to accomplished player. If you are interested in learning the game, or have played in the past and want to get back into it, please drop by the Snooker Room. You will be assured a warm welcome and a place to try your hand at one of our three tables. The Snooker Room is open weekdays between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm and any other time the Evergreen Centre may be open. (Continued on page 22)
