FROM THE PUBLISHER
BOSTON DESIGN GUIDE
As the folk rock anthem goes, “the times they are a changin’.” Today, more than ever, people are
not only loving beautiful visuals (okay, so that part hasn’t changed), they are craving stories. They
want to hear how that striking interior design was won, what it takes to build a sky-high, high-end
condominium in the heart of Boston and the journey behind the construction of unforgettable
suburban “forever homes.”
Here at BDG, we hear that, and have invested considerably in delivering more at a time when many
publications are getting thinner, smaller or closing up shop. This year’s issue is chock full of content,
including a whopping five collaborative features showcasing incredible team efforts and homes that
are feasts for the senses, as well as pagestopping spreads exploring subjects as varied as highoctane
auto salons or organic modern architecture rooted in nature. Throughout, readers will also
find “quick hit” one-pagers that crystallize what professionals in the home industry are working on
or invested in now. These shorter articles allow access to these premier firms in a way that hasn’t
been done before, a human way.
This bulked-up issue is a bit of a battle cry to the fact that print is not dead. I firmly believe that,
but I am also certain that, along with the staying power of this coffee table-worthy resource, today’s
content must be supported on web platforms and through digital resources and social media. For
this reason, all of what you see here is also available to you on bostondesignguide.com, as well as
on BDG’s social media channels, which bring the best in luxury home design and architecture to a
community of 35,000+ fans and followers.
These media extensions allow us to take you beyond the limits of the printed page, like video, for
example. I am thrilled to share that we have bolstered our video presence considerably, bringing
viewers not only behind the scenes, but also virtually within the homes and businesses of top-tier
professionals. When you have a chance, check out Boston Design Guide’s YouTube channel. Every
one of the collaborations in this magazine has a video component; Ernie Boch, Jr. takes us inside
his incredible garden chapel featured in “On Hallowed Grounds,” while interior designer Anthony
Catalfano opens the doors to an impossibly stylish “New Classic” in Weston.
This is the new BDG. My heartfelt thanks to the homeowners who have welcomed us into their
havens and to the committed (and courageous!) professionals we’re featuring in this exciting
new way.
Enjoy!
