UCKFIELD'S WONDERFUL PLANTERS
by Ian Smith
Volunteers have been working hard to clear paths and scraps
of land that have been overwhelmed by plant growth as the
growing season has really taken off in the period mid-June to
mid-July.
One area that the group is particularly
proud of is the 'garden bank' outside the
town's library (photo attached). Leafcovered
branches on the tree by the traffic
lights outside the police station have been
lopped off as they seemed to be responsible
for the lights phasing not operating
correctly because the leaves were blocking
the view of the traffic for the camera at the
top of the lights column .... simples!
Meanwhile, litter-picking activities
continue unabated. We believe that
Uckfield has one of the cleanest and tidiest
High Streets in Wealden District and we are
pleased that the District Council Chairman
is due to pay a visit to Uckfield in August to
meet volunteers.
In the September edition of Uckfield
Matters we will be featuring the Brighter
Uckfield Annual Garden Competition.
