GETTING
summer
SET FOR
fun
by Bex Maini
The summer holidays are imminent as I write this and I'm part excited and part
intimidated by all those days to fill with fun for the twins! Although they're still
at our childminder every week as I work part time, we will have a lot more days
off together and I've been thinking of plans to keep them occupied. I've started
a list of activities and tried to include some free or cheap things so it doesn't get
too expensive with trips out all the time.
We've already had some summer fun prior
to the schools breaking up with Woodlands
Festival over in Kent, eating watermelon in
the garden (just the smell reminds me of
holidays), trampolining in the sun, playing
in sprinklers (THE best way to cool down!),
learning to ride bikes, playing in the park
(my friend introduced us to Peacehaven park
and it's epic!), BBQs in the garden, puddle
jumping in the garden, fort building on the
sofa...
Some of the things already on my summer
'must do' list are:
Making a bird feeder, bug hunting with
magnifying glasses, a photo challenge
with the kids' cameras, more bike riding to
increase their confidence at Bewl Water and
the Cuckoo Trail, Drusilla's, Knockhatch, fruit
picking at Oast Farm, exploring Uckfield's
nature reserve, Sheffield Park for a picnic and
tree climbing, bubble fun, pony riding...
