HERE COMES SUMMER...
We all love a British Summer don’t we! The one thing that unites British people
during August is a strange desire to talk about the weather and one of the few
certainties in life is that the British weather at this time of year is…. changeable!
Of course, those with families of school age
children often ‘enjoy’ different dynamics
during August as the long holiday break
runs in to the following month. As I write,
I’m thinking about some time away and I
hope that you all enjoy some down-time
this summer…
Holidays can be times of reflection, planning
and generally ‘recharging of batteries’.
Naturally, it’s important that we take timeout
occasionally and although August is
probably the main holiday month, we will
continue at the Chamber to offer you a
networking opportunity this month with a
Breakfast event at the popular Highlands
Inn on Friday 23 August.
During Uckfield Festival week, I attended
the Celebration of Youth event organised
by Uckfield Volunteer Centre. There were
some brilliant examples of young people
volunteering and some were recognised
with awards. We will continue that theme
at our August breakfast as we welcome
a Queen’s Scout amongst Uckfield
businesses.
At our recent Members’ meeting we
heard about many ways in which Uckfield
employers could support the development
of careers advice and provide opportunities
for young people to experience the work
place via the ESCC scheme ‘Open Doors’.
We will follow this up when we visit Uckfield
College for our 18th September meeting,
which is open for booking to members now.
Of course, if you’re not a Chamber member
and would like to attend or know more,
please get in touch.
It’s good to celebrate success and I want
to encourage as many Uckfield businesses
as possible to take some time to enter the
East Sussex Business Awards. The awards
evening will be held here in Uckfield at East
Sussex National on Thursday 26 September
and entries will close on the same date
as our breakfast, 23 August so easy to
remember! I look forward to being part of
the judging panel!
Finally, the Chamber is proud to sponsor
Uckfield’s ‘Weald on the Field’ festival on
Saturday 3 August, which may well be
done and dusted by the time you
get to read this!
