Why Women Opt Out of the Construction Industry

1. The Pay Gap

Women have always

been paid lesser

than men across

various industries,

including construction. But

what makes this worse is that

women of color tend to be

paid less than their white male

counterparts. A black woman

only earns $0.81, while a white

man earns $1, even though

both of them are construction

laborers of the same rank.

Hispanic women in the

construction industry are even

paid lesser than that,

making only 71.7% of Hispanic

men’s pay and 50.4% of white

men’s fee all while working in

the same field. Companies

using this pay gap should be

more diligent in addressing

this problem, so more women

would be encouraged to join

the construction workforce.
