COVER
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
The Democratic
National Committee
rejected a request
by presidential
candidate Andrew
Yang to commission
additional polls that
would help candidates
qualify for the
January debate stage
in an effort to increase
diversity at the event.
A DNC spokesperson
said in a statement
to USA TODAY
that it has been
"more than inclusive
throughout this entire
process," and cited 26
qualifying polls for
the December debate.
But it true that the
DNC doesw not seem
to be acting in good
fgaith and Tom Pere3z
is not goiung to talk
about it.
SHAPIRO: Do
you agree with the
candidates that
tonight's debate stage
is too white?
PEREZ: I take a back
seat to no one, Ari,
in my commitment
to diversity and
inclusion. And I was
proud of the fact that
one of the candidates
who made the debate
This year I have a list of CITY
RESOLUTIONS I would like to
suggest.
They don't have to be implemented the
same day but with a little innovation, we
can make a better future for all of us. I am
sure there are other city problems urgently
pressing our attention, but this also helps
make a livable city.
Here and elsewhere the trend of causebased
police cars is growing among
departments around the country. Autism
and mental heath awareness should be front
and center and until we see it next to serve
and protect, we may not realize the person
acting like a criminal may just need a quiet
place to calm down. We used to fund teddy
bears in the cars as well, I am not sure we
are still doing that.
Fee schedules
Today we see another trend of micro fees. I
would like to see those fees waived or made
tax deductible when you make under some
amount, like 60K, which seems about the
average for our retirees. The goal is to make
life better with one job and have a new
minim wage. I would hate to see new fees
eat that up. Other real life things like STEM
investments, at all ages, should also be tax
deductible.
Free Internet
The Internet is not like pay TV. Pay TV
is a luxury but the base Internet has been
bundled as a service, partly because the
cable companies are allowed monopolize
our option, then raise the rate. This is
preventing access or worse, having to
choose between necessities. We need to
provide free wifi in the city and act as a
wireless Internet service provider. All we
need to do is buy a router and most homes
already have one. The cost is estimated at 10
-15 million, cheap, considering how much
we pay now.
Wi-Fi networks can also help save millions
of dollars in operational costs by providing
broadband connectivity for public-safety
and other agencies within city government.
Wireless can be deployed for about $20 to
$25 per household.
When I worked at Digital Equipment, I
won a design award to use wireless hotspots
with solar panels, so that even a
lights out disaster can be managed more
efficiently. By placing these, for example at a
bus stop, you can find the nearest hot-spot
that has been programed to assist you, even
if all the cell towers are knocked out. The
unit is inconspicuous, unless needed with a
folding solar curtain and charging stations.
The city should also begin to investigate
home automation requirements and
options. All around me are people that are
not mobile, some or bed ridden and may
are elderly. With home automation, we can
make their lives richer and more fulfilling.
Some other neat ways to make a more
livable city Continued from page 36
LGBTQ ARTISTS WHO HAVE MADE AN IMPRESSION IN 2019
Visual artists referred to in this article are
some who have been featured in previous
articles in the Desert Daily Guide during
this year, others are those featured in
other sources where LGBTQ artists
have been recognized for their creative
contributions.
Visual artists in 2-dimensional art,
drawing, painting, printmaking,
photography, videography, etc.
Paul Richmond previously featured in
California with his partner. He paints
primarily figures and portraits and is also
responsible for the web site YOU WILL
RISE committed to helping LGBTQ
youth rebuke bullying. He is also the
founder of Dreamspinner Press.
Louis Fratino another artist previously
featured in DDG is an emerging gay
artist living and working in New York
City. His painting are mostly figurative
and of intimate subjective topics
involving sexuality showing lovers, and
friends. His work has been compared to
artists such as Piccaso and Matisse.
The artist Jordan Mejias who creates
watercolor figures in a freestyle that uses
the medium of watercolor to express
his view of Michelangelo figures in
contemporary terms
Christine Gutierrez, previously from
Hatsune Miku is the name of a Vocaloid
software voicebank developed by Crypton
Future Media and its official moe
anthropomorph, a 16-year-old girl with
long, turquoise twintails. Ah... what... and a
what.... with.... oh never mind.
Outside of the Times Square MarketSite
I was there and I have the shirt to prove it,
Hatsune Miku to us, is an animated AI
charater that is showing up all around the
place.
When I first introduced touch screen into
the Gay bars around town, it was a dismal
failure, The Tool Shed allowed me to place
one at the Mr. Leather Contest and I placed
them in the Mr. Gay Contest as well. To get
take up, I even wrote a video game for the
touch screen.
Having wrote the worlds first mobile
search engine, I was sure I was ready. But
I was not wanting to wait for touch to be
everywhere, like today.
So I sold its parts and bought a print
magazine. I was in Palm Springs. I was not
wanting to go back to the tech world I was
a part of.
If you know the story, I was at Sisco
Systems, Cisco Systems Opens The
NASDAQ Stock Market -- Virtually,
From Its Silicon Valley Headquarters;
Networking Technology Enables Firstof-Its-Kind
NASDAQ Virtual Opening
Sadly, I have grown and the shirt no longer
fits. But these days, we were the cowboys of
the tech world and I was in Palm Springs
on my off time with the magazine.
A Vocaloid (Bōkaroido) is a singing voice
synthesizer software. This software enables
users to synthesize "singing" by typing in
lyrics and melody. Like Garageband, but a
bit more complicated. One can add effects
such as vibrato, or change the dynamics
and tone of the voice. It is sold as "a singer
in a box". Vocaloids are designed to act as
a replacement for an actual singer. Then
the likness of a 16-year-old girl with long,
turquoise twintails was created to match
the Vocaloid who's voice is modeled from
Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita.
In 2008, Good Smile Racing began the
licensing of Hatsune Miku and other
Crypton Future Media-related Vocaloid
content. This year you can meet her
(instance) at coachella fest. If your lucky
CDC WARNING on vaping
Updated December 31, 2019
Syndromic dataexternal icon on emergency
department (ED) visits suggest that
the e-cigarette, or vaping, product useassociated
lung injury (EVALI) outbreak
began in June 2019.
Cases have been declining since a peak in
September. These data align with recently
released CDC national epidemiologic data
among EVALI patients suggesting that the
number of new hospitalized EVALI cases
has also been declining since a peak in
September. While ED visits associated with
possible EVALI have declined, they have
not returned to levels before June 2019 and
EVALI remains a concern.
Laboratory dataexternal icon support
previous findings that vitamin E acetate is
closely associated with EVALI.
This study analyzed samples from 51 EVALI
cases from 16 states and a comparison
group of samples from 99 healthy people
for vitamin E acetate, plant oils, medium
chain triglyceride (MCT) oil, coconut oil,
petroleum distillates, and diluent terpenes.
Vitamin E acetate was identified in
bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples
(fluid samples collected from the lungs)
from 48 of the 51 EVALI patients, but
not in the BAL fluid from the healthy
comparison group.
Although we are seeing progress in the
investigation and response, we must remain
vigilant. National data show that certain
groups of EVALI patients released from the
hospital are more likely to be rehospitalized
or die.
Characteristics of EVALI patients who
were readmitted or died following hospital
discharge indicate that some chronic
medical conditions, including cardiac
disease, chronic pulmonary disease, and
diabetes as well as increasing age might be
risk factors leading to higher morbidity and
mortality among some EVALI patients.
Based on the findings on EVALI patient
rehospitalization and death, CDC has
updated its guidance to clinicians to
minimize these outcomes.
The updated clinical guidance recommends
that hospitalized patients be documented
as clinically stable for 24–48 hours prior to
discharge.
Patients should have a follow-up visit with
a primary care provider or pulmonary
specialist, optimally within 48 hours of
discharge—a shorter follow-up time than
the previous recommendation of 1–2
weeks.
Healthcare providers should continue to
report cases of EVALI to their state or local
health department. CDC will continue to
update guidance as we learn more about
EVALI.
Where is that list?
ELECTIONS
Its time to start endorsing
Candidates.
DDG's first pick is now Andrew Yang!
(News flash I will vote blue no matter who)
He is the only one that gets this brave new
world. His critique of Joe Biden about coal
miners becoming programmers was spot
on. Coal miners don't think tech. They
are included with the people that think
rejecting self checkout machines save jobs
(they don't). We need to address our poorer
rural area, they would be the best candidate
for 1000 a month.
"It's the only thing I know how to do," he
said. "I don't read and write."
Says Charlie Athey to reporters, just after
making it out of the Upper Big Branch
mine alive, minutes before the explosion
that took at least 25 of his fellow miners in
2010. I remember this but do many?
Sadly, he is probably dead now. The
NIH's National Center for Biotechnology
study shows the average life expectancy
in the coal mines for those starting work
at 15 y was found to be 58.91 y and 49.23
y for surface and underground workers
respectively.
But to them, it's a form of martyrdom in
CALIFORNIA
the land time forgot. These people need to
unwind from poverty to begin to wonder
and dream of the future.
Fun Fact: The only time self checkouts
have a line is when the old checkouts are
significantly backed up. If you can't see that
fact is significant, it is because you couldn't
do the math! I was never a coal miner. But
I saw the reluctance of new technology.
With a reactions like Frankenstein's
monster and fire, people automatically
think technology is bad and it must be
mocked until proven to be a super power.
Behind the Tool Shed, I was laughed at for
daring to put images and touch together,
like witchcraft.
BTW all witchcraft was stopped in Salem
and you can see it reenacted with an
Award-winning live reenactment of a 1692
witch trial, followed by a guided tour of
the dungeon. The most exciting experience
in Salem. Open daily 10am-5pm April
through November. Last performance starts
at 5 pm. Extended hours in October. Not a
comercial but a point. We have overcome
myths
The truth is Andrwe Yang, Scooters and self
checkouts are the future, not tree hugging
ideas of witches and goblins. We need to
stop chanting "Make America Great Again"
when we can't even make it better.
WAR IS STUPID! Like our forfathers knew
we are never so great, when we can make a
better world to enjoy. Yesh!
