BK: So Landon, why a Porsche?
LS: It goes back to when I was nine
years old. I remember saving up and
bought an ‘88 911 slant-nose model to
build. Then there was the movie Risky
Business with the infamous 928 and
U-boat commander that forever stuck
with me. My dream was the 993 Turbo
which happened to line up with me
becoming driving age. I still have the
framed poster hanging on my wall in
my home office.
BK: And what made you buy the cab?
LS: Well I wasn’t looking for cab. I had
done some research and knew I wanted
a 997 based on my budget. I looked
at two or three others before finding
this one thru Carlink. They had this
California car I inquired about online,
and once they discovered I was local
they said to come over and see it. I got
there and they basically tossed me the
keys and said to take it out and let them
know what I thought. So I did, top
down, wind in my hair (laughing), and
I was hooked on a cab. It took us two
to three days to agree on the price but
that’s history. There were 70k miles on
the car and it recently has become my
daily driver so now I’m pushing 116k
miles with no issues.
BK: Back to the boys. Dad, if you had
to describe their personalities in a word
using only coffee or cars, who’s what?
LS: That’s pretty easy! Corbin is Coffee
and Brady is Cars (and with smiles
across the table the boys concur he
passed the test.)
BK: So Corbin I hear you have big plans?
CS: Well kind of. I want to go to SMU
and get two degrees, one being math.
After college I want to go to culinary
school and open my own business. It
would be a bakery that would be open
in the mornings and then reopen later
for lunch and dinner.
BK: Brady what would you say would
be your favorite Maverick moment?
BS: I think that would be when Debi
(our Social Chair) asked me to write
something on last years All Member
Party. Now that was pretty cool!
BK: and Corbin?
CS: That would be the M&M at
the Frisco Rail Yard. The three of
us along with Robert Kendrick
helped direct traffic. It also when
I really got to know Mike O’Hare
(interesting lol).
BK: So Brady, I hear you are a bit of
car collector?
BS: It’s true. I have over 200 Hot
Wheels. It’s a bit of everything but my
favorite is the yellow 996 cab.
So I know what you are thinking. I’m
going to say as I do every month as I
write the interview: what if . . . ? What
if I had not met Landon and the boys?
What if I had not had the chance to get
to know Landon and recommend him
to be our current Volunteer Chair?
So yes, I will say it again. If and when
you meet someone new, someone old,
don’t miss out on “Driving
Friendships!”
