Rotary Club of Rochdale members have volunteered
at the Petrus community store since its opening. It is
a fantastic social enterprise set up by the Petrus
Community charity to support the homeless. Rotary
does ‘hands on’ work to help local people and
support the Petrus service users.
Everyone in the store is very welcoming and serves
to help disadvantaged people with good quality
second hand goods at very reasonable prices.
We admire the hard work of the staff and the many
volunteers including Petrus service users taking a
step into full time employment. We will continue to
support this great enterprise

The job centre
sent me for one month’s
unpaid work experience
in 2014.I’ve never left!
I volunteered on the delivery
van and in the store, carrying
fixing and collecting/
delivering furniture. I’ve
gained valuable experience,
met some wonderful people
and made some great
friendships, and in the
last 6 months Petrus
has offered me
paid work.

Due to various circumstances, I was left
with a one bed roomed flat and unable to
furnish it myself as I didn’t have the funds.
I was issued with a voucher from Petrus
and was able to receive a bed, wardrobe,
drawers and other basic essentials
without which I would have never been
able to get by day-to-day. Petrus has
been such a fantastic help to me, the
voucher scheme is a great asset to me
and others in a similar situation.

I’ve worked for the Petrus
Community Store since we
opened in 2013. The support from
volunteers and donators is awe
inspiring. I’ve been in continuous
employment for the last 37 years
and have never had such job
satisfaction as I’ve had whilst being
at the store. The benefit to
volunteers and the recipients of the
voucher scheme (over 650
vouchers issued) is wonderful.
