your light shine before others, so
that they may see your good works
and give glory to your Father in
heaven."
Prayerful Awareness
St. Matthew in the 5th, 6th and 7th
chapters of his Gospel presents the
"Sermon on the mount." In the passage
given here the Lord's proclamation is
about his disciples in which the Lord
highlighting his personal relationship
addressing them as 'You.' Salt is of
precious value since it is used to add
taste to food as well as for preservation.
Salt is also used in religious rites.
The proclamation "You are the salt
of the earth" reveals the lifestyle that
should be of a disciple. While in John
8:12, the Lord states, "I am the light
of the world; he who follows me will
not walk in darkness, but will have the
light of life" here declares, "You are
the light of the world." Accordingly it
is clear that the vocation of a disciple
is to take the place of the Lord Jesus.
Let us open up to the invitation of
the Lord: "Your light must shine in
the sight of men, so that, seeing your
good works, they may give the praise
to your Father in heaven."
The Second Proclamation
When I came to you, brothers
and sisters, I did not come proclaiming
the mystery of God to you
in lofty words or wisdom. For I
decided to know nothing among you
except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
And I came to you in weakness
and in fear and in much trembling.
My speech and my proclamation
were not with plausible words of
wisdom, but with a demonstration
of the Spirit and of power, so that
your faith might rest not on human
wisdom but on the power of God.
Prayerful Awareness
St. Paul clearly gives us his life
experience proclaiming that his power
and strength is simply of Christ and
of the Holy Spirit. He unfolds before
us the position we should hold as an
authentic Christian disciple which
means the way we should bear witness
to him. St. Paul who says that our faint
should not depend on human philosophy
but on the power of God gives
his witness in being a 'light' and 'salt'
to the earth. Can we feel contended
with our lifestyle as a Christ disciple?
Let us awake.
Towards my son-ship
His invitation to you and to me is
to always live in the discipleship of
Christ being a light to the society, to
whom I come into contact with, my
neighbours and the parish community
and to add taste to their life. For this
purpose, let us constantly be open to
the Holy Spirit, live a life in union
with Christ and be a light to the lives
of others with a love filled lifestyle as
true sons and daughters of God. Let us
more and more spend ourselves and
commit ourselves for this task.
Prayer Starter
He has gained renown by his wonderful
deeds; the Lord is gracious and
merciful. He provides food for those
who fear him, he is ever mindful of his
covenant. He has shown his people
the power of his works, in giving them
the heritage of the nations. The works
of his hands are faithful and just; all
his precepts are trustworthy. They
are established for ever and ever; to
be performed with faithfulness and
uprightness. He sent redemption to
his people; he has commanded his
covenant forever. Holy and awesome
is his name.
"Abba Father! Abba Mother!"
