Gospel Proclamation
On that day, when evening had
come, he said to them: “Let us go
cross to the other side.” ... A great
wind storm arose, ... so that the boat
was already being swamped. But he
was in the stern, asleep on the cushion
and they woke him and said to him,
“Teacher, do you not care that we are
perishing?” He woke up and rebuked
the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet!
Be still!” Then the wind ceased and
there was a dead calm. He said to
them, “Why are you afraid? Have you
still no faith?” And they were filled
with great awe and said to one another,
“Who then is this, that even wind and
sea obey him?”
Prayerful Awareness
Jesus was sleeping when the boat
got caught in a storm. Disciples did not
know that Jesus was the Son of God, and
were helpless, not knowing what to do.
Finally they woke up Jesus as He was
their leader, saying they were perishing.
They were amazed when Jesus rebuked
the wind and quietened the sea. They
witnessed the power the words of Jesus
had. Jesus rebuked the disciples for their
lack of faith, the lack of knowledge and
trust in Jesus. This happens even now
with some of our people who still do not
know Jesus. They may know Him as the
Second Person of the Holy Trinity. They
may know Him as the Messiah who came
down from heaven to save mankind from
sin. Yet they may not know Him as their
Saviour, as the only person who is prepared
to give His life to save them due
"Abba Father! Abba Mother!"
to His great Love for them, as and when
they ask for His help. The only thing Jesus
asks from them in return is “Keep my
commandments’’. This is why in John
14:15 He said “If you love me, follow all
my Commandments ” And when we do
that He intervenes for us and takes steps
to grant us the Best Gift - the Advocate,
the Holy Spirit (John 14: 16). When the
Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us, He
will give us the gifts of Love, joy, peace,
patience, wisdom, kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
(Galatians 5: 22-23). Let us talk to Jesus
and ask for His help to know Him better,
to build a personal relationship with Him
as our Leader, our Lord and our Best
Friend. Let us start a new life and practice
following His Commandments, and be
guided by His teachings, accepting Him
as our Teacher, our Leader, our Friend
and Lord waiting to help us whenever
we ask for His help with faith, without
any doubt (James 1:6).
The First Reading speaks to us on
how King David accepted his sin and
repented when Nathan the Prophet told
him and unveiled the sin he committed
in secret. How well do we accept the
faults and sins we commit knowingly or
unknowingly or our weaknesses when
someone else points it out to us. Do we
try to correct ourselves and repent for our
sins and ask for Lord’s forgiveness for
doing things against His LOVE. Let us
repent and change, and make our voyage
to become pious as far as possible, to
reap salvation, purifying ourselves little
by little with the help of the Holy Spirit,
our Helper and Counselor.
Prayer Starter
Have mercy on me, Almighty God and
our ever Loving Father, Reveal to us all
our secret sins, faults and weak nesses
and help us to repent and ask for Your
forgiveness with the Help of the Holy
Spirit. Wipe away my offenses, wash me
clean from my guilt, purify me from my
sin. Amen .
