Afamily day to celebrate national unity<br />

Kaiapoi High School’s<br />
head students brought a<br />
freshperspective on what<br />
the daymeans.<br />

he oncesaw Waitangi Day<br />
as simply ‘‘a day of being<br />
off school’’.<br />

he Treaty of Waitangi.’’<br />
He spoke about the story<br />
ehind the treaty, noting<br />
hat several iwi and hapu<br />
eaders, including his own<br />

ign,while others were not<br />

entertainment was also<br />
provided by local school<br />
kapahaka groupsand<br />
dance groups to reflect<br />
cultural diversity.<br />
