Sculpture park to reopen gates<br />

Raymond Herber has missed the<br />
interactionwith visitors to hisIron Ridge<br />
Quarry Sculpture Park in the Waipara<br />
Hills.<br />
‘‘I have really missed not sharing our<br />
sliceofparadise with others,’’ Raymond<br />
says.<br />
‘‘We thoroughly enjoyed people<br />
spending time here on special occasions, or<br />
simply sharing afamilypicnic in our<br />
beautifullandscape.’’<br />
So, two years on from closingthe park, he<br />
is opening up to the public again, witharelaunch<br />
ticketed partyonFriday,March6.<br />
The park will then open from March 7to<br />
March29, 11am to 4pm.<br />
From thenon, it will open the first<br />
Sunday of every month, during the same<br />
hours, or by appointment.<br />
‘‘It all got too hecticand Iwas verybusy<br />
with commission work, so Idecided to take<br />
two seasons off.<br />
‘‘ButIfound out Ireallymissed people<br />
coming through and sharingmyworkwith<br />
them,’’ he says.<br />
Raymond saysheislooking forward to<br />
hosting organised groupsagain and<br />
entertainingthem with forging<br />
demonstrations.<br />
He will be displaying anew range of<br />
work named the Workshop Series, which<br />
will be on salefrom opening night onwards.<br />
He says this givespeople the option of<br />
buying moreaffordable items, and people<br />
can place orders for this work, which will<br />
be on display.<br />
Tickets for the opening evening are $30<br />
and can be purchasedvia the website,<br />
raymondherber.com.<br />
Groupbookings suchascar clubs, garden<br />
clubsand Probus groupsare welcome<br />
anytime throughoutthe year.<br />
Entrytothe park is $10 per person,with<br />
thoseaged under 16 free. Picnics are<br />
welcome.<br />
Record turnout for fundraiser<br />

Arecord turnout of vehicles tookpart in<br />
the Rangiora RSA’sannualvintage car<br />
and tractor run on Waitangi Day.<br />
The run beganfrom the Rangiora RSA<br />
carpark in Victoria St.<br />
It included adrive through the Charles<br />
UphamRetirement Village in Rangiora<br />
before headingtoLoburn Domain, where<br />
the vehicles were parked for display.<br />
The vintage car sectionwas organised<br />
by Pat Youngman, with Loburn’s Denny<br />
Dunlop organising the tractorsection.<br />
The event included seven vintage<br />
RollsRoyces, plus a1953 Bentley and a<br />
1970 Daimler Limousine,all owned by<br />

Industries in Rangiora. The spectacular<br />
lineupofluxuryvehicles was estimated<br />
to have acombinedvalue of between<br />
$600,000 and $700,000 by Pat’s son,Jake<br />
Youngman, amechanicwho works for<br />
Daniel.The vehicles are part of amuch<br />
larger collection of vintage cars owned by<br />
thebusinessman.<br />
Thevintage car and tractor run is a<br />
fundraiserfor the RSA, held in<br />
conjunctionwith the Rangiora Pottery<br />
Group. Potters provided home baking,<br />
plus coffeeand tea duringthe event to<br />
raise funds for theirgroup. Aselectionof<br />
potterymade by the groupwas on sale.<br />
