Well the debates are 

finally starting to rival 

a local election with the 

mud slinging and rabid 

white privilege on display 

for anyone with the 

courage to look. 

But I am sure very few 

heard anything but 

the jabs of their own 

candidate. 

The fact is that this debate 

looked more like a Trump 

reality show. 

It also means we have to 

consider four more of 

wasted opportunity. So we 

need to make damn sure 

we hold the house and 

take the senate. 

Right now, everyone is 

yelling because of the 

flaws of our candidates 

are the result of failed 

democracy under white 

rule. 

And our inability to 

have a real discussion 

about what must be 

done and less about what 

should have been done. 

Win arguments but not 

elections. 

We have a democracy 

when we allow dissent in 

the party. But the people 

need to focus on who is 

best not why the other 

person is worse. 

Then again party debates 

are like family feuds. At 

the end of the day, Hillary 

will choose.

“Virtual Pharmacist” introduced at Desert 

Oasis Healthcare Improving chronic condition 

treatment through Arine’s data science 

technology 

February 19, 2020 – Palm Springs and San 

Francisco – Desert Oasis Healthcare (DOHC) 

has entered into a multi-year commercial 

partnership with Arine, a healthcare technology 

company combining data science with clinical 

expertise. Arine’s Virtual Pharmacist software 

platform will be used to ensure DOHC patients 

are on the safest and most effective medications 

for their chronic conditions. Those conditions 

currently include Chronic Obstructive 

Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Heart Failure, 

Cardiovascular conditions, and Diabetes. 

The Virtual Pharmacist brings logic and 

efficiency to a very complicated task for DOHC 

clinical pharmacists who are members of 

patient care teams in the Population Health and 

Prescription Management Department. The 

department is known internally and by patients 

as PHARxM – pronounced “Farm.” 

“This new tool presents a lot of complex 

information in an easy-to-view, easy-tounderstand 

dashboard so we can quickly focus 

on important care decisions,” said Lindsey 

Valenzuela, Administrator of PHARxM. 

“The Virtual Pharmacist allows my team 

of pharmacists to support DOHC nurses, 

physicians and other care team members to 

serve more patients, better and faster.” 

Analyzing social, clinical and behavioral data 

on an ongoing basis to pinpoint patient health 

needs, the Virtual Pharmacist highlights 

existing access issues and identifies dangerous 

gaps in care. It then uses artificial intelligence 

to generate tailored, evidence-based treatment 

plans designed to improve health outcomes and 

reduce costs. 

Almost 90% of healthcare spending in the 

United States is driven by patients with chronic 

conditions, many of whom are treated with 

chronic medications. Over $520B in annual 

unnecessary spending can be directly tied to 

negative clinical consequences of mismanaged 

medications. 

“This partnership and technology-enabled 

approach will reduce the unnecessary costs 

associated with non-optimized therapy, 

especially for patients on multiple concurrent 

medications. Most importantly, the Virtual 

Pharmacist will help DOHC care teams scale 

their impact to thousands of patients in the 

desert communities of southern California,” 

says Yoona Kim, CEO of Arine.

senior member of our patient care

Brian Atchley emerging artist at Silo118 Gallery 

This year Art Palm Springs features 

nearly 60 galleries from around the world 

and locally. Galleries from South Korea, 

Switzerland, Argentina, and Venezuela 

are a few of the foreign countries 

represented as well as numerous galleries 

from around the United States and 

the local area. Each of these features 

numerous artists both contemporary 

living artists and some whose works are 

considered masterpieces of creativity 

from artists no longer with us. 

One relatively local gallery at the show is 

the Silo118 Gallery from Santa Barbara. 

The gallery was actually in a grain silo 

next to the Weber Bread factory which 

was in business from the late 1940s 

until the mid-1970s. After the bakery

had closed the silo sat empty for several 

decades. In 2016 Bonnie Rubenstein 

moved from the east coast to run an art 

gallery she named it Sio118 reflecting 

the address of where it was located. 

Although the idea of a silo gallery was 

very unique it turned out that it was not 

in the part of the city attracting people 

interested in the arts. disappointed she 

closed the gallery in 2018 but began the 

Silo118.com online gallery. She attends 

mega art fairs such as Art Palm Springs 

and represents up and coming artists. 

On artist that caught my eye who Bonnie 

represents is an artist new to the art 

world. The artist is Brian Atchley. 

Brian had not set out to be an artist. 

He was working in Chicago for an 


advertising Company doing photography. 

He noticed an unused canvas in a dumpster 

outside of his apartment. He had a vision 

of a woman he wanted to paint from a 

photograph he had taken. This was the 

beginning of his advent into art. His first 

painting titled, "Serenity" is what evolved 

on that thrown away canvas. He decided 

to try his hand at art The next decision 

was a warm climate to work in. He flipped 

a coin for Miami or California. He now 

lives in West Hollywood among a number 

of aspiring young artists. He describes his 

work as photorealism or hyper-real. From 

his beginning, in photography, he says he 

looks at where light is coming from, where it 

is focused. He begins a painting with these 

questions in mind. The subjects of his work 

now are primarily figures of models he has 

photographed. He uses a griding technique 

to achieve the details in the realism of the 

painting. He indicated that he is a growing 

artist and now realism is his focus who 

knows what the future will bring with new 

techniques with this young creative artist. 

The works displayed at the Silo118 booth 

at Art Palm Springs include a large 

painting of two figures by Brian titled, 

"Eye of Providence" a larger than life-size 

painting that dominates the visual space 

of the Silo118 Gallery. This is just one of 

many galleries and artists that are visually 

stimulating and exciting to view at the show.
