Photo finish
We have an endless choice of finishing products on hand, but
what exactly to we mean when we talk about ‘finish’? Gary Kelly
Is it straightness, smoothness, shine, the perfect blow dry? While the official definition is open to interpretation,
there is no doubt that it’s got something to do with that feeling clients should experience when they catch a glimpse of
themselves in the mirror just after their salon visit. We asked eight renowned stylists to showcase the image that they
feel best interprets the perfect photo finish.
BEAUTIFUL BRITANNIA RULES
This look is from our ‘New Britannia’ collection, which celebrates women of colour. I have always wanted to create a longer version of the
pageboy cut created by John Frieda in the 70s. I cut the hair wet and then blow-dried it, smoothing the hair cuticle with heat to create a
high-shine finish. My favourite product to finish hair is the original Moroccanoil, which is amazing on textured hair—it evaporates on the
hair which reduces weight but adds shine. A great touch to finish a look like this is to add a tiny spritz of Glimmer Shine from Moroccanoil
— spray it into the air above the hair and let it settle. Finally I applied some KeraCare Silken Seal, which has been one of my go-to finishing
products for years, especially on Afro hair as it is light but creates a beautiful shine.
MOVIE STAR GLAMOUR
I love this image because it represents that work we do at Tristan Eves — it’s all about movie-star glamour, but it’s still durable and
wearable. With a look like this, the finish is so important because you need to create that movie-star gloss and shine and also the
grandeur of a movie star with lots of volume. I used Shu Uemura Art of Hair Muroto Volume shampoo and conditioner at the back
wash and applied K Water from Kérastase for a shiny silk finish. For the blow-dry I applied Kérastase Mousse Bouffante for hold in
the root and Ciment Thermique for heat protection. I then added Spray Volumifique for lift to get body in the roots. Once the blow
dry was complete I applied L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Nutrifier DD Balm to smooth any fly-aways.
