The onomasiological type is then determined by the interrelation between the
onomasiological structure and the morphematic (onomatological) structure. For the purpose of
the analysis of ‗compounds‘ four out of five Onomasiological Types are relevant. 9 In
Onomasiological Type 1 each of the three constituents is morphematically expressed, as
illustrated in (3):

In Onomasiological Type 2 the determining constituent of the mark is not
morphematically expressed, as in (4):

The resulting unit is necessarily much more general, a hyperonym of the compound in (3).
In Onomasiological Type 3 the determined (Actional) constituent of the mark is left

Apparently, this type, covering what has been traditionally called primary compounds, is
the most demanding in terms of meaning predictability because of the absence of the most
important, Actional, constituent in the morphematic structure.
Onomasiological Type 4 does not distinguish between the two mark constituents; rather it
takes them as a single whole. It is this type that encompasses noun incorporation. 10 Thus, the
