What a year it has been so far.... and it’s only April! If I had known 2020 would play out like
this, I probably would’ve chosen to climb into my trusty time machine and skip the whole
year.
Unfortunately, however, we haven’t quite gotten around to inventing said time machine and
hence, many of us have no choice but to trudge along in the face of uncertainty. In saying
that, I am in awe of the strength and courage of our front-line workers in this time of crisis,
and I’m truly appreciative of their effort and sacrifice. These people are the heroes who
inspire the rest of us to continue to work hard and to eventually impact our communities in
a more meaningful way.
For our final year medical student readers, I imagine many of you may be feeling quite
stressed in such uncertain times. Whilst I may not be able to directly assist you, my National
Publications Subcommittee and I have worked tirelessly over the past few months to put
together this guide in the hope that it may answer your internship questions and provide
some clarity during this challenging period. We sincerely hope you find this guide useful in
your internship decision-making and application process.
You have all worked extremely hard to get to where you are and I hope you are proud of how
far you’ve come. From applying for medicine to attending that first day of medical school,
and now becoming a fully fledged doctor... what a journey! I am sure that the people around
you and those who have supported you through this journey are also immensely proud of
you. I wish you the best of luck in commencing the newest chapter of your career. There are
still many years to learn, grow and develop into the doctor you aspire to be!
