Use a weekend or two to visit the many national parks, hiking trails and gardens, enjoying the nature of our beautiful island. <strong>Internship</strong>s in Tasmania offer flexibility of lifestyle, with each Intern streamed into either Medicine, Surgery or General training (including emergency medicine). Invaluable career support is offered, coupled with targeted training and development programs. The relatively small intake is advantageous, providing a more relaxed and personalised work environment. Wind down with a Cascade or two, or (if Aussie beer’s not your thing), indulge in Tasmania’s renowned cheese and chocolate to finish off the long days. HOW TO APPLY Applicants must be graduates of, or graduating from an Australian University. Applicants will also be required to undergo pre-employment checks. The Tasmanian Health Service online application form ensures that all information required to assess applications is provided. The form includes information on applicants’ location, eligibility to work in Australia and details of how to submit electronic reference requests. The online application form requires candidates to include their AHPRA number. Application must be submitted online via the Tasmanian jobs website www.jobs.tas.gov.au within the dates specified. There is a Tasmanian Health Service online application form which ensures all necessary information is collected. Candidates are not required to address the selection criteria in writing, but should attach a CV and must organise completion of two electronic referee reports. The application and offer dates have not been confirmed at the time of writing. Good luck! The Rural Junior Doctor Training Innovation Fund Tasmanian Community-based Intern Program was set up to encourage more doctors to undertake rural community general practice. This 13-week rotation will expose interns to the philosophy and skills involved in rural general practice. General Practice has a different service approach than other medical specialities and this is summarised nicely by the quote below: General Practice is “an approach to health and medicine that is not reductionist. We are not doctors for particular diseases, particular organs, nor particular stages in the life cycle, we are doctors for people.” Ochre Health is the fund holder for the Commonwealth’s Rural Junior Doctor Training Innovation Fund (RJDTIF) in Tasmania There are five intern positions in the following locations: Huonville, Queenstown, King Island, St Helens and Scottsdale. The Postgraduate Medical Education Council of Tasmania has accredited these terms as non-core terms to form part of the 47 weeks of supervised practice as an intern before being eligible for general registration. Tasmanian Health Service (THS) Interns who undertake a general practice rotation (13-week training program) will still be required to complete the three core terms in emergency, medicine and surgery at their tertiary hospital. Interns will continue to participate in their tertiary hospital education program and be provided a primary care education program during their community term – comprising weekly tutorials on primary care topics, regular case conferencing, and a structured experiential learning opportunity incorporating small rural hospital, general practice, community and age care work. All of their work will be directly supervised by one of the senior GPs of the participating Practices. This opportunity is available to Tasmania interns who indicate their interest in a GP rotation.
