<strong>Western</strong> <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> Foundation<br />
and the Foundation is pleased to welcome the following companies and organisations as<br />

– a consortium of Kailis family companies, which sponsored the naming rights to the Board<br />
Room<br />
– Shell Development (Australia) Pty Ltd, which sponsored the naming rights to the Great<br />
Ocean Experience <strong>The</strong>atrette<br />
– Tenix Defence Pty Ltd—Marine Division, which sponsored the re-creation of the World<br />
War I submarine AE2’s conning tower<br />
– <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Australian</strong> Fishing Industry Council and Sealanes, which co-sponsored the naming<br />
rights to the Fishing Gallery<br />
– Fremantle Ports, which sponsored a major interactive display to feature in the new<br />
<strong>Museum</strong>.<br />
• Event sponsors: A program of events was developed to celebrate the opening of the new<br />
Maritime <strong>Museum</strong>. <strong>The</strong> Foundation, working closely with <strong>Museum</strong> Marketing staff, sought<br />
support from members of the Perth and Fremantle business sectors to ensure the program’s<br />
success. <strong>The</strong> Foundation was delighted by the response to the campaign and thanks those<br />
who committed their support: Gatecrasher Advertising, Concert & Corporate Productions,<br />
Sail and Anchor Pub Brewery, Coca-Cola Amatil, Hollice Rundle & Associates, Multiplex<br />
Constructions Pty Ltd, Palandri Wines Ltd, Coates Prestige, Happenings Event Management<br />
Services, Imagesource Digital Solutions and Phase 1 Audio.<br />
• Australia II: Thanks to the support of many individuals and companies, Australia II, the 1983<br />
America’s Cup winner, was able to participate in the America’s Cup Jubilee Regatta in Cowes,<br />
United Kingdom, in August <strong>2001</strong>. <strong>The</strong> yacht’s participation in this historically significant<br />
event was made possible by donations and sponsorships received by the Foundation from<br />
Limestone Resources Australia, Network Seven Ltd, Sir James Hardy, Plotdale Pty Ltd, and<br />
a number of members of the Royal Perth Yacht Club.<br />
• Alcoa Frog Watch: A generous sponsorship from Benefactor member Alcoa World Alumina<br />
Australia has ensured the continuation of the very popular and environmentally important<br />
Alcoa Frog Watch program. Alcoa’s continued support has facilitated program enhancements<br />
including a dedicated web site and the development of a complementary program, ‘Building<br />
Frog Friendly Gardens’.<br />
• <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> frog research: Since establishing its Frog Research Fund in<br />
November 2000, the Foundation has received donations totalling $11,942.50, including a<br />
very generous donation from Paddy Pallin Pty Ltd raised through its ‘Don’t Bag the<br />
Environment’ campaign, which ran from October <strong>2001</strong> to March <strong>2002</strong>.<br />
• <strong>Western</strong> <strong>Australian</strong> <strong>Museum</strong> Documentary Unit: Distinguished Patron member of the<br />
Foundation Woodside Energy Ltd sponsored two <strong>Museum</strong> video productions: Our Backyard,<br />
an educational video presented by high school students for school use through Australia<br />
and New Zealand, and a short story video of a survey of offshore habitats and associated<br />
benthic biota. A new Foundation member, Dampier Salt Ltd, co-sponsored the Our Backyard<br />
video.<br />
• Dampier Archipelago marine biological survey project: Woodside Energy Ltd’s four year<br />
commitment $636,000 to this project, concluded this year with a final payment of $159,000.<br />
Woodside’s support has enabled the <strong>Museum</strong> to: survey all major marine habitats in the<br />
Dampier Archipelago region; run an International Marine Biological Workshop; develop and<br />
install a marine biological display at the <strong>Museum</strong>’s Perth site; develop a dedicated web site;<br />
and produce a 50-minute documentary and educational resource material. <strong>The</strong> documentary<br />
component of this project Life on the Edge–Down Under was launched this year. All major<br />
components of the project have been completed, and information gathered is being collated<br />
and analysed, adding substantially to existing knowledge of the marine biodiversity of <strong>Western</strong><br />
Australia.<br />
