local and NewZealand made<br />

Displays included awide<br />
range of homedyed, high<br />
qualityand affordableyarns,<br />
as wellasspinningwheels,<br />
possum and merinoproducts,<br />
books,patterns and<br />
accessories.<br />
There was aweaving studio<br />
at thebackofthe shopwhere<br />
enthusiastswereinvited to sit<br />
and knit.<br />
Feedback fromcustomers<br />
had been verypositive andthe<br />
shop’s residentknitting group<br />
called Sip and Yarn were<br />
looking forwardtoreturning<br />
for amonthly evening<br />
gathering, saidMrs Bota.<br />

made safer<br />
Drivers are being warned that a<br />
new speed zone on State<br />
Highway 1atRangitata will<br />
come into force on September<br />

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport<br />
Agency will be using electronic<br />
signs to reduce speed at the<br />
intersection of SH 1and SH79<br />
from 100km/h to 60km/h, to help<br />
prevent deaths and serious<br />
injuries from crashes.<br />
The speed zone technology<br />
activates the electronic signs<br />
when someone is turning into<br />
or out of SH79 and will<br />
temporarily reduce the speed<br />
limit on SH1 from 100 km/h to<br />
60km/h.<br />
“When you see the signs in<br />
action, please slow down to the<br />
limit shown,” said Jim Harland,<br />
Waka Kotahi Director Regional<br />
Relationships.<br />
“This will reduce the risks<br />
around this intersection,<br />
preventing crashes and saving<br />
lives.’’<br />
He said intersection speed<br />
zones had been proven to work<br />
in New Zealand and overseas<br />
and the Rangitata zone was part<br />
of apackage of work to make<br />
the intersection safer.<br />
Barrier arms, lights and bells<br />
were installed at the railway<br />
level crossing near this<br />
intersection in 2019 and the<br />
crossing surface was made<br />
safer. The road shoulder on<br />
SH1 was also widened and an<br />
escape bay created.<br />
