You mayalso have inherited somefrom your parents, providingstories from as many as fivegenerations gone by, right atyour fingertips!When I was a child, mostfamilies had a box camerawhich took black and whitepictures and only workedoutdoors. We children grewup with this camera whichwas used on special occasions,then sat idly on the dresser inmy parent’s bedroom the restof the time. I also rememberan aunt that came to visit fromCalifornia, which seemed likea world away for my brothersand I, as we had never travelledfurther than the town adjacentto ours. She had a moviecamera, which we foundmysterious and exciting.We went outside so she could“film” us, then stood there quietly (aswe had always been instructed to dowhen a picture was taken), but she kepturging us to move about and play. Wenever did see the “movie” so cannot tellyou how that turned out, but what fun itwould be to see it now!In my late teens I purchased a small,colour, Kodak Instamatic which wasequipped with flashcubes. I loved thatcamera, and used it for years; well intomy married life. We took hundreds ofpictures of everyday events, birthdays,weddings, camping trips, and of course,many pictures of family and friends.Everyone was always excited to seethe pictures, which were thendated, and put into an album.Eventually, I investedin a good 35mm camera,complete with a “zoom” lens.This was about the sametime everyone was gettinga digital camera or a smartphone, but I still preferredmy trusty 35mm. Wheneverwe had a family gatheringand pics were being taken,everyone laughed at mewith my “old fashioned”camera. However, the nexttime we got together, andI would show the picturesI took, they all begged forone. Lucky for them that Ihad already ordered extracopies when I got the filmdeveloped.All these years later, westill love to pull out all thesepicture albums. There are a lot of laughsat the hairstyles and clothing of theera; then the inevitable moans andgroans lamenting how young we oncewere! We pause as we gaze at picturesof loved ones who are no longer withus, and reminisce about times gone byas we slowly turn the pages. There is alifetime of memories in those picturealbums, and what a story they tell. I've learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today,life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow.Age 49... I've learned that singing "Amazing Grace" can lift my spirits for hours.Age 50... I've learned that motel mattresses are better on the side away fromthe phone.Age 51... I've learned that you can tell a lot about a man by the way he handlesthese three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmastree lights.Age 52... I've learned that keeping a vegetable garden is worth a medicinecabinet full of pills.Age 53... I've learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents,you miss them terribly after they die.Age 58... I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making alife.Age 61... I've learned that if you want to do something positive for yourchildren, work to improve your marriage.Age 62... I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.Age 64... I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitton both hands. You need to be able to throw something back.Age 65... I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if youfocus on your family, the needs of others, your work, meeting newpeople, and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you.Age 66... I've learned that whenever I decide something with kindness, Iusually make the right decision.Age 72... I've learned that everyone can use a prayer.Age 82... I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.Age 90... I've learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone.People love that human touch, holding hands, a warm hug, or just afriendly pat on the back.Age 92...
