This is also an advantage for the wear and tear of the cutting edges, as the milling

cutter does not always have to enter through the unmilled edge of the part.

Important to know: If you can guarantee optimal clamping and absolutely backlashfree

guidance, you will always achieve better surfaces with down-cut milling than with

up-cut milling. The reason for this is that with down-cut milling the cutter touches the

cutting edge when the chip is cut, at this point the cutting forces are lowest. With upcut

milling you have the highest cutting forces at the entry of the cutting edge, which

can lead to chatter marks.

With flush milling, this is often not an issue because only a few 0.1mm are milled

flush.

An important topic for professionals: While with hard metal flush milling cutters not

only the sharpness of the cutting tooth is lost over time, the diameter of the milling

cutter is also reduced.

In the case of diamond routers with a guide ring, the cutting diameter is significantly

longer constant due to the hard diamond cutting material compared to hard metal

router bits with a guide ring.
