epetition, the sixteen texts placed on the syllabus was controlled with an unfamiliar
word rate <strong>of</strong> 2%-5% and demonstrated a satisfying average target word rate <strong>of</strong> 1.9%
(see Table 3.2). The average target word repetition rate also reached a plausible
portion <strong>of</strong> 46% (see Table 3.2). In other words, for each text about half <strong>of</strong> the target
words were exposed to learners in previous readings. Moreover, <strong>of</strong> the 223 target
words in the sixteen texts, 29 <strong>of</strong> them appeared five times or more, and 16 <strong>of</strong> them
appeared more than 9 times (see Table 3.3). Compared to Ghardirins’ Textladder
(2003) in which amount <strong>of</strong> exposure <strong>of</strong> five times was ensured within almost 300
pieces <strong>of</strong> texts and word distribution interval not controlled, the distribution result in
our syllabus differ considerably. As is shown from the statistic numbers, our goal <strong>of</strong>
controlling unfamiliar word rate and ensuring repetitive target word exposure was
achieved.
