Piscantar Glacies- Ice Fishing<br />

If you love winter, then this magical experiment is just<br />

for you. You can have fun fishing for ice cubes no<br />

m<strong>at</strong>ter the temper<strong>at</strong>ures outside- all year long!<br />

M<strong>at</strong>erials:<br />

• Small paper cups or an ice cube tray<br />

• Bowl of w<strong>at</strong>er<br />

• String (yarn or kite sting works gre<strong>at</strong>)<br />

• Salt<br />

Instructions:<br />

1. Fill the cup or tray up with w<strong>at</strong>er and place it in the freezer.<br />

You can also use ice cubes from your freezer and skip this<br />

step.<br />

2. When the w<strong>at</strong>er is frozen, remove the ice from the cup or<br />

tray.<br />

3. Put the ice in the glass or bowl of w<strong>at</strong>er. The cube will bob up<br />

and down in the w<strong>at</strong>er and then flo<strong>at</strong> on the <strong>to</strong>p.<br />

4. Place one end of the string from the fishing pole on <strong>to</strong>p of the<br />

ice cube and sprinkle salt on the ice where the string is<br />

<strong>to</strong>uching.<br />

5. After about 10 seconds, carefully lift the ice cube out of the<br />

w<strong>at</strong>er with the fishing pole. You caught a fish (ice)!<br />
