The examination or evaluation of studentathletes<br />

who are beginning their initial season<br />

of eligibility and students who are trying out<br />

for a team shall include a sickle cell solubility<br />

test, unless documented results of a prior test<br />

are provided to the institution or the<br />

prospective student-athlete or student-athlete<br />

declines the test and signs a written release.<br />

Five-day acclimatization for conducting<br />

administrative and initial practices is required<br />

for first-time participants (freshmen and<br />

transfers) and continuing student-athletes.<br />

Preseason practice time limitations and<br />

general regulations.<br />

Permissible summer conditioning activities.<br />

A coach may be present during voluntary<br />

individual workouts in the institution’s regular<br />

practice facility (without the workouts being<br />

considered as countable athletics-related<br />

activities) when the student-athlete uses sportspecific<br />

equipment. The coach may provide<br />

safety or skill instruction but cannot conduct<br />

the individual’s workouts.<br />

The panel shall be responsible for resolving<br />

issues involving player safety, financial impact<br />

or image of the game.<br />

Institutions must have a concussion<br />

management plan for student-athletes. See<br />

Guideline 2i.
