When Archbishop Paul Martin, was appointed as Bishop of Christchurch, he promised us he would make the rebuild of Marian College a priority, and he was true to his word. Although it has taken somewhat longer than originally planned, we think it has been worth the wait! NCEA 2020 results In the words of Mother Teresa “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot. Together we can do great things.” This could not be truer in the design and planning of the new look Marian College. There have been so many people involved in this project, from the students, staff and school community to the professionals, who can do the things we cannot, it truly is a team effort. On behalf of the Board, I would like to acknowledge the incredible work of the Architects, Sheppard and Rout, and the Diocesan project management team, who have listened and share our excitement about this build. They have all worked hard to ensure the Catholic Special Character of Marian College is maintained in a design which is quite unique. I’d also like to acknowledge the Marian College Senior Leadership Team who have ensured the new school build meets the needs of the staff and students for the future. The significance of this new build project cannot be underestimated and as a Board we feel very privileged to be a part of this. We look forward to working alongside the team to ensure Marian College continues to thrive in the future. Artist’s impression of the new Marian College Congratulations to… • Our Pasifika group who performed at Polyfest last month. These students were amazing and a credit to themselves and their families. • The Marian College Dragon Boating Team who won three gold medals for the 250m, 500m and 2km events at the South Island Championships. The team went on to win a gold medal in the 2km race at the National Championships. • The Marian College Rowing Squad who competed in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Rowing Championships (known as the Maadi Cup). Eight crews made it through to the finals of their events with two crews achieving Top 10 status and a further four crews making the Top 15 in their events. • Sienna Watson (U15 Triple Jump and High Jump); Mya Phillips (U15 Javelin and Discus); and Moira Fetu (U14 Javelin) who came first at the Canterbury Secondary Schools Athletics Championships. Sienna also set a new Canterbury Record in the U15 Triple Jump.
