Sixth Annual Easter Gimmick Rally

by Ginger Heuerman, Rally Co-Chair

It was a crisp and cool morning and we couldn’t have asked

for better weather - with the sun shining it was beautiful. I

don’t know for most of the participants, but for us it was an

hour-long drive to get to the beginning of the rally checkpoint

to meet all of the other participants. In the end we had 13 cars

and 29 people – a good turnout.

The drive itself was beautiful. All the long stretches were

amazing- just lots of green grasses and tons of cows! We had

one member say that that’s what he was going to remember

the most from this rally: the cows. We were first out so as to

get to the destination restaurant and get set up for arrivals.

We had two people following that didn’t have navigators. We

had a wonderful jaunt through the countryside.

When we arrived at Lazy Dog we were a bit earlier than our

appointment time but they were more than accommodating;

they sat us right away and were fabulous. We chatted and waited

for more to show. As

participants started

arriving at different

intervals we started

hearing of heroic

tales of going across

the countryside and

bailing and just

coming straight to

Lazy Dog, along

with other tales of

trips to Oklahoma

and back.

Apparently, there

was an Easter bunny

that ate a direction to

turn right onto FM

902 while delivering

his eggs and made

everyone miss a

turn. Sooooooo we

are happy that most

of the cars showed

up, and we hope

Alan and Gigi Nusbaum

Thane Hayhurst and Rich Meszaros

that the teams that didn’t show up had a fun time hopping

around the countryside. We hope they weren’t too mad.

The only costume award went to Rich Meszaros. Ironically,

he and Thane Hayhurst won second prize for the questions.

First prize went to Alan and Gigi Nusbaum. All in all we

think it went well in spite of the hiccup. We have fixed the

route instructions, should it be used again. We were happy

that everyone came out to have fun. Looking forward to

seeing our participants on the next one. Happy and Safe

Driving until then!
