that are more internationally isolated enjoy fewer of<br />

these privileges, and citizens bear the burden.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se privileges include freedom to travel easily, and<br />

also extend to trade. <strong>The</strong>re can be huge disparity in the<br />

number of such agreements countries hold, and from<br />

which citizens benefit.<br />

For example, the Democratic Republic of Congo is not<br />

the only country in Africa that holds no global goods<br />

and services regional trade agreements. Citizens from<br />

these countries would have no preferential rights on regional<br />

trading which would significantly impact business<br />

development.<br />

On the other hand, countries such as Canada, the US,<br />

China, and the UK enjoy around 40 regional trade<br />

agreements that empower easier trade for their citizens.<br />

Investing in second citizenship can give access to preferential<br />

trade agreements and conditions that would be<br />

otherwise inaccessible. For wealthy businesspeople,<br />

this can deliver significant returns in terms of trade within<br />

for second homes, while lifestyle is the most important<br />

Launched in 2000 by Paul Hoeve<br />

and Lay Koon Tan, Nature Squared<br />

was originally created to provide<br />

meaningful, sustainable employ-<br />

ment in developing countries. At a<br />

time of rampant globalisation, the<br />

partners wanted to create a firm<br />

that went back to basics, using tra-<br />

ditional artisanal skills rather than<br />

the mass production that saturated<br />

the market around them. <strong>The</strong>y nev-<br />

er expected the business to grow in<br />

such a phenomenal way, but sixteen<br />

years on they still pride themselves<br />

on the holistic ethos that made them<br />

launch the brand in the first place.<br />

As such, many of the natural materi-<br />

als Nature Squared use are by-prod-<br />

ucts from other industries like fishing<br />

and farming. For example, abalone<br />

shells are sourced from a commu-<br />

nity-based farm in Asia, eggshells<br />

come from hatcheries, mussel shells<br />

from a farm to name but a few. This<br />

is just one way in which the compa-<br />

ny proves that sustainability is at its<br />

heart.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y never use natural materials that<br />

are endangered, protected or threat-<br />

ened or that cannot be found in<br />

abundance in their natural environ-<br />

ment. To this end they ensure none<br />

of their materials are on the CITES<br />

list (the Convention on Internation-<br />

al Trade in Endangered Species of<br />

Wild Forna and Fauna) and if they<br />

suspect that a material not found on<br />

the CITES list has been sourced un-<br />

ethically like poaching abalone or<br />

shagreen they won’t use it in their<br />

designs<br />

<strong>The</strong>y even go as far as to encourage<br />

clients to ship their creations by sea<br />

freight rather than by plane to cut<br />

down on their own carbon footprint.<br />

Furthermore, Nature Squared’s designs<br />

are also all made in their own<br />

premises in the Philippines, allow-<br />

ing local artisan craftsmen to sup-<br />

port themselves and provide a better<br />

future for their families.<br />

Car Spring Drive to Wine Street<br />

On the 20th of May <strong>The</strong> <strong>Luxury</strong> <strong>Network</strong> Ger-<br />

many started its outdoor event program this<br />

year with an exclusive luxury sports car drive<br />

from Frankfurt, through the palatinate forest to the<br />

German Wine Street. <strong>The</strong> participants enjoyed scenic<br />

twisting roads, gorgeous natural landscapes, unique<br />

locations and culinary specialties.<br />

15 luxury sports cars participated at this very spe-<br />

cial driving experience and lifestyle event. <strong>The</strong> fleet<br />

included several Aston Martins (e.g. Vantage V8 &<br />

V12S), Ferraris (e.g. California T & T HS), Maserati<br />

GTS, Porsches (e.g. 911 Turbo, GTS, GT3), McLarens<br />

(570S & 570S Spider), Audi R8 V10 plus and a Lambo-<br />

rghini Huracán Performante.<br />

This one day driving experience started with a gourmet<br />

lunch at “GUT LEBEN am Morstein”, an unique architectural<br />

and culinary treasure, including a gourmet<br />

restaurant, boutique hotel and unique meeting facilities.<br />

After 3 years of renovation this heritage compound,<br />

including the 1899 build Villa Keller and the<br />

Trappischen Hof, with its historical wine cellars from<br />

the 15th century, just recently opened its doors to the<br />

public. Chef Peter Kubach and Sous Chef Bernd Witte<br />

worked in many Michelin star restaurants globally.<br />

<strong>The</strong> relaxing lunch was followed by a several hour<br />

long drive on small winding roads through the palatinate<br />

forest. Highlight was a 10 mile long single-lane<br />

mountain road, flanked by old pine- and oak-trees,<br />

passing steep bluffs and ending at the Haardt-Peak,<br />

offering a stunning view over the Rhine-Valley to-<br />

wards the Heidelberg Castle.<br />

This wonderful road trip ended with a sundown experience<br />

at ARTRIUM Holz-Weisbrodt, the hot spot<br />

of the German Wine Street. World-class wine combined<br />

with a gorgeous location was the perfect end<br />

to a perfect day. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Luxury</strong> <strong>Network</strong> guests got re-<br />

served front door private parking as well as their own<br />

VIP lounge area, where champagne, wine and delicious<br />

food was served.<br />

Fares Ghattas Named as Head of<br />

Diplomatic Council in the Middle East<br />

<strong>The</strong> Diplomatic Council is<br />

expanding its activities to<br />

the Middle East and H.E.<br />

Fares Ghattas, the Global CEO of<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Luxury</strong> <strong>Network</strong> <strong>International</strong>,<br />

has been named Head of the<br />

Middle East launch.<br />

He has developed thousands of<br />

strategies for many luxury companies<br />

and built an international<br />

HQ team specialized in high-end<br />

areas such as: finance, motorsport,<br />

nautical, health and beauty,<br />

aviation, real estate, travel, jewellery<br />

and watches, entertain-<br />

ment and fashion, among oth-<br />

ers. Q-Business <strong>Magazine</strong> called<br />

his work “brilliant and one of the<br />

most interesting people working<br />

in the luxury business”.<br />

Fares Ghattas graduated from the<br />

Lebanese American University<br />

with a degree in business man-<br />

agement, then he took control of<br />

his father’s real estate construc-<br />

tion firm and changed the compa-<br />

ny name to FG Realty and shifted<br />

its focus to real estate brokerage<br />

and property management.<br />

He then travelled from Beirut to<br />

Qatar in 2005 where he became<br />

well known for selling and renting<br />

luxury real estate and his love for<br />

luxury started. Fares is the CEO of<br />

FG Realty with offices operating<br />

in Lebanon and Qatar.<br />

In 2016, Fares Ghattas was hon-<br />

oured by IIMSAM the intergov-<br />

ernmental observer to the Unit-<br />

ed Nations Economic & social<br />

council the title of goodwill am-<br />

bassador due to his fundraising/<br />

philanthropic acts, and interest in<br />

eliminating malnutrition.<br />

hosted their first Partners Evening for 2018<br />

at Blackbird Private Dining and Events of<br />

Ghanem Group on 28th March 2018. Located on Ea-<br />

gle Street Pier in Brisbane Australia, this venue was<br />

surrounded with 180 degree of spectacular views<br />

and a glimpse of the night life to die for.<br />

We had the pleasure of hosting guests from over 60<br />

high-profile luxury businesses from award winning<br />

winery, menswear, high-end appliances, home au-<br />

tomation, world’s no.1 luxury tea, private jets, bullet-proof<br />

limousine service, private wealth advisory<br />

and the list just goes on.<br />

Guests certainly enjoyed the hospitality with fine<br />

food, wine and quality service. Blackbird also allowed<br />

guests to be privy to two exciting super highend<br />

projects to be launched in June 2018. How exciting!<br />

2018 is looking to be a luxurious experiential<br />

Peroni Sunset Cinema’s<br />

From the last 2nd to 14th May, Peroni Sunset<br />

Cinema’s inaugural edition was an unprece-<br />

dented success.<br />

It seems that the relationship between Singapore<br />

island, Sentosa, and Peroni must have been born<br />

under an auspicious star. Indeed, the Italian beer<br />

brand, a <strong>The</strong> luxury <strong>Network</strong>’s member, was al-<br />

ready partnering with the Singapore Yacht Show<br />

last April.<br />

Last month, this open-air cinema gave the guests<br />

the opportunity to enjoy new release films in a re-<br />

laxed, yet refined ambiance. Thanks to wireless<br />

headphones, which every customer is issued upon<br />

entry, every attendee was able to be plunged into<br />

the film atmosphere, toes in the sand, without being<br />

disturbed by external sounds.<br />

Peroni Sunset Cinema was the best way, for young<br />

and old alike not only, an event to appreciate new<br />

released movies, but also the best occasion to<br />

taste coastal cuisine and sunset drinks from their<br />

partner <strong>The</strong> Tanjong Beach Club. Guests were encouraged<br />

to arrive as early as 5 pm to catch up old<br />

friends or meet new ones, and be entertained by<br />

several DJs before the cinema performance.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re was nothing more you could wish, than<br />

strolling in this tropical beach setting conductive<br />

to the finest Instagram shots, while cheering with<br />

some chilled Italian Peroni beers.<br />

Undoubtedly, Peroni and Sentosa’s lucky star will<br />

keep shining, and this deeply rooted relationship<br />

intertwined with a flawless organization will give<br />
