Proud Galleries is pleased to present <strong>The</strong> Dior Collection, an exhibition of fashion<br />

photography showcasing the legendary designs of Christian Dior and its enduring<br />

impact on the fashion world. <strong>The</strong> House of Dior is renowned for revitalising both<br />

haute couture and ready-to-wear fashion in the 20 th Century and its legacy<br />

continues to inspire modern style. Documenting this remarkable brand throughout<br />

its first two decades, the exhibition displays the iconic works of Mark Shaw,<br />

Norman Parkinson, Jerry Schatzberg, Bert Stern and Horst P. Horst. From the<br />

polished editorial shots capturing well-known figures for Life magazine, to behindthe-scenes<br />

studio snapshots, <strong>The</strong> Dior Collection explores the creation of this<br />

revolutionary luxury brand and its reinvention of the female silhouette.<br />

Since creating his namesake fashion company in 1946, Christian Dior has become<br />

recognised as one of the founding figures of haute couture. After a meeting with<br />

entrepreneur Marcel Boussac, Christian Dior was invited to design for Philippe et<br />

Gaston, a Paris fashion house. Dior, who had been working in fashion for almost<br />

ten years, instead launched a new label under his own name, and with Boussac’s<br />

approval and sponsorship, the House of Dior was born.<br />

In 1947, Christian Dior presented his first show, ‘Corolle’. Fabric rationing from the<br />

Second World War had ended and Dior relished an opportunity to step away from<br />

the silhouettes of wartime styles, calling them "hideous and repellent". His new, fresh designs presented in ‘Corolle’ became synonymous with the<br />

feminine and voluptuous. <strong>The</strong> show made the cover of Life magazine and was dubbed “<strong>The</strong> New Look” by Harper’s Bazaar, who described the<br />

designs as “a curving, opulent day silhouette that is the most elegant fashion for decades". Following Christian Dior’s death in 1957 and for the<br />

remainder of the decade, Christian Dior’s protégé Yves Saint Laurent took full creative control of the brand. YSL was nicknamed “<strong>The</strong> Little Prince<br />

of Fashion” by the press and his first show, a mere three months after Dior’s death, was given a standing ovation. In 1960, Marc Bohan's takeover<br />

was just as revitalising to the brand, as he “refined the lines, lengthened the silhouette and defined a look of dynamic femininity, freed of all<br />

constraints” (House of Dior).<br />

Through the lens of five photographers, <strong>The</strong> Dior Collection explores the rich heritage and metamorphosis of Christian Dior throughout its early<br />

years, as well as its legacy and impact on the fashion industry. Included in the exhibition are the inimitable works of Norman Parkinson, who often<br />

relied on his mischievous eye in photoshoots rather than the formal studio setting. <strong>The</strong> playful and energetic shots by Jerry Schatzberg feature an<br />

insider’s perspective into the world of models and designers, recording not only Dior’s elegant and luxurious designs, but also capturing a glimpse<br />

of the process of ‘60s studio fashion photography. Also presented in the exhibition are many notable figures gracing editorial pages in the most<br />

coveted Dior designs, from Mark Shaw’s works for Life magazine featuring Elizabeth Taylor, to Bert Stern’s iconic snaps of Marilyn Monroe.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Dior Collection brings together a remarkable selection of photography, highlighting the brand’s unique formative years through the works of<br />

leading fashion photographers from the 20 th Century. <strong>The</strong> exhibition presents a scoping overview of the label by collating images of the classic<br />

early designs and exploring them through a contemporary lens. By revisiting the roots of this exceptional brand, <strong>The</strong> Dior Collection aims to<br />

showcase the style, innovation and creativity developed by the legendary House of Christian Dior.<br />

and Marilyn Monroe. <strong>The</strong> design portrays<br />

their individual identities throughout the<br />

interior that is reminiscent of the Kennedy<br />

era – timeless and elegant like Jackie, striking<br />

and classic like JFK. Designed with John F.<br />

Kennedy’s 1963 visit to Frankfurt in mind,<br />

Olga Polizzi has used her inimitable taste to<br />

select and bring together unique and local<br />

pieces from renowned German artisans to<br />

give each suite character and charm while<br />

creating a sense of place; an idea which<br />

is intrinsic to the Rocco Forte Hotels<br />

highlights of the evening came<br />

pilot Matt Jones, who intends to<br />

take off on a round-the-world trip<br />

in the Silver Spitfire next summer,<br />

HUGO BOSS and Porsche – two global players with shared regional roots –<br />

will be joining forces in the future. Beginning next year, their cooperation<br />

will center on the two companies’ involvement in Formula E racing. In its<br />

On December 22nd 2018, <strong>The</strong> <strong>Luxury</strong> <strong>Network</strong><br />

Global CEO HE Fares Ghattas signed an agreement<br />

to launch <strong>The</strong> <strong>Luxury</strong> <strong>Network</strong> Indian<br />

Ocean with franchise representative and CEO of the<br />

TLN region, Mr. Clement Wong Ah Sui, along with <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>Luxury</strong> <strong>Network</strong> Global Head of Business Development<br />

Ms. Helena Warren.<br />

Over the past few years, luxury brands have steadily<br />

been building presence in the Indian Ocean. It wasn’t<br />

long before local brands began to aspire to international<br />

luxury standards. Today, we have a mix of local<br />

and foreign luxury brands thriving in the market and<br />

the world is starting to notice it. This is just one of<br />

Auckland’s Viaduct to network and<br />

indulge in plenty of food and drink.<br />

Yachts at Oyster & Chop, one<br />

H.E. May Chidiac<br />

May Chidiac (born 20 June 1963) is the Lebanese Minister Of State For Administrative Developement.<br />

Chidiac is a former television journalist at the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) and one of the station’s<br />

television anchors until an assassination attempt on her life. She was one of the few critics of Syria’s keeping<br />

troops stationed in Lebanon after the end of the Lebanese Civil War and charged that the Taif Accords stipulated<br />

that Syria withdraw from Lebanon.<br />

On the day she was attacked, after the Cedar Revolution and Syria’s troop withdrawal from Lebanon earlier that<br />

year, she hosted a talk show in which she criticized what she called Syria’s continuous meddling in Lebanon’s<br />

affairs and voiced fears of further violence ahead of the UN report on the death of the former prime minister,<br />

Rafik Hariri.<br />

Georgina Rizk born 3 January 1953 is a beauty icon, socialite and miss universe. She was crowned Miss Lebanon<br />

for the Miss Lebanon contest and is the current wife of Lebanese singer and actor Walid Toufic. She was the only<br />

the Woman of the Year Award. Mrs. Kaddoura has set-up the Kaddoura Family Foundation, also known as the<br />

Kaddoura Association for Philanthropy, which she heads and that caters to educational needs and to the needs of<br />

(mentally and physically) handicapped children. She also built a nursing home for the elderly.<br />

Mrs. Kaddoura received a B.A. in Political science from LAU and an MBA from the Harvard Kennedy School of<br />

Government. She is a member of the Board of Trustees at Tufts University, within the Fletcher School of Law and<br />

Diplomacy where she helped create the Middle East Studies Program. She is also a member of the Dean’s Council<br />

of Harvard Kennedy School of Government, as well as a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Historical<br />

Justice and Reconciliation. She was a member of the board at the Woodrow Wilson Centre and Aspen Institute<br />

in Washington, D.C. and was the Chair of Advisory Board at Amideast in Lebanon. In addition, she was a member<br />
