“Istanbul Opera House”<br />
to Become one of Istanbul’s Iconic Buildings in Taksim<br />
Designed as a “multivenue<br />
performing art<br />
center”, the Istanbul<br />
Opera House will be one<br />
of the architectural icons<br />
of Istanbul and one of<br />
Europe’s ostentatious art<br />
centers when completed<br />
in 2019.<br />
<strong>The</strong> new project of Istanbul’s<br />
Atatürk Cultural Center<br />
comprising a total enclosed<br />
area of 102.736 m2<br />
will be carried out by Murat<br />
Tabanlıoğlu, son of Hayati<br />
Tabanlıoğlu, the architect<br />
of the former Atatürk<br />
Cultural Center which was<br />
located in the same place.<br />
Set to appeal to larger<br />
crowds, the new opera<br />
house and cultural center<br />
project started with the<br />
construction of five culture<br />
blocks in the famous<br />
Taksim Square; consisting<br />
of three different halls<br />
which can accommodate a<br />
total of 3,737 people, cinema<br />
and theater, recording<br />
studios, rehearsal halls,<br />
exhibition halls, art galleries,<br />
rooms for soloists<br />
and orchestras, meeting<br />
rooms, restaurants and<br />
cafeterias as well as cultural<br />
streets spanning the<br />
surrounding area.<br />
