Applications for the Wheelchair
Accessible Taxi Grant Scheme are
now open.
The assistance available is up to 50
per cent of the costs associated
with acquiring a new Wheelchair
Accessible Taxi (WAT) up to a
maximum of $45,000.
Grant funding is available to assist
with the purchase of a new vehicle
and the purchase and install of
wheelchair accessibility devices for
that same vehicle.
Owners and operators may be
eligible for reimbursement of costs
associated with purchasing and
modifying a WAT if the new vehicle
began providing a taxi service on
or after 1 July 2019 and meets the
eligibility criteria.
To be eligible for assistance, all
wheelchair accessibility devices
must be purchased new. Any reused
equipment will not be eligible.
All approved WATs are required
to start providing WAT services
within three months after
receiving a grant under the
scheme.
If an owner or operator has
multiple WATs they can make
applications for each vehicle if
they meet the criteria.
it must be at least 6 years old,
least 800,000kms and repairs
with an estimated cost of $10,000
determined in writing by a
mechanic, panel beater or other
relevant tradesperson.
If applying before you commence
replacement activities, you will
need to submit a quote for costs
associated with acquiring a new
wheelchair accessible taxi vehicle.
In obtaining quotes you are
required to take reasonable
steps to achieve value for money
in acquiring a new wheelchair
accessible taxi.
DON’T TAKE THE RISK
THIS FLU SEASON
Vaccination against
influenza (flu) remains
important this year.
Flu is a highly contagious viral
infection that can cause widespread
illness and deaths every year.
Behaviours such as increased hand
washing and social distancing
helped to stop the spread of flu
viruses in the community last year,
and we should continue this.
