to serve on the KLN Nominating Committee.<br />

The chapter Fundraising Committee will raffle a<br />

“Summer Fun Basket” with proceeds going toward a<br />

local charity. Chapter Officers include:<br />

KNA REACH Chapter<br />

The KNA REACH Chapter recently hosted a CE<br />

program, “You’ve Been Elected to Serve on a Health-<br />

Related Board – Now What?” The offering was<br />

facilitated by Matthew Hunt, EdD. Chapter officers<br />

include:<br />

KNA River City Chapter<br />

The River City Chapter members to work<br />

with community members to present continuing<br />

education opportunities with proceeds benefitting<br />

charities. In January, the chapter hosted a CE<br />

program, “Blessings in a Backpack – Who Will<br />

Feed the Children this Weekend?” and garnered<br />

$600 to benefit the non-profit. The chapter’s<br />

next presentation, facilitated by Matthew<br />

LaRocco, manager of Norton Hospital’s Harm<br />

Reduction Program, “One of These People is<br />

Not Like the Other,” noon-1pm, Monday, <strong>June</strong><br />

21 with proceeds going to the <strong>Kentucky</strong> <strong>Nurse</strong>s<br />

Foundation (KNF).<br />

River City Chapter members are helping with<br />

COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics through<br />

the KNA Office, the local health department and<br />

other community organizations. Chapter members<br />

participated in a community health fair providing<br />

blood pressure screenings and education.<br />

To celebrate <strong>Nurse</strong>s Month, River City Chapter<br />

members randomly selected four members<br />

each Friday to receive a prize. At each meeting,<br />

members who bring a non-KNA member nurse<br />

friend are entered in a drawing to win a prize or<br />

gift card. The chapter presents its first scholarship<br />

opportunity by providing a $500 scholarship for<br />

a River City Chapter member pursuing a graduate<br />

degree and a $250 scholarship for a Student<br />

Subscriber pursuing an undergraduate degree. The<br />

chapter will also offer KNA Summit scholarships<br />

for first time conference/summit attendees and has<br />

developed a student liaison team to communicate<br />

with schools of nursing to increase Student<br />

Subscriber participation.<br />

To celebrate National Certification Day,<br />

members were asked to complete a survey to<br />

make the chapter aware of their certification. A<br />

total of 44 members participated sharing their<br />

certification and were entered in a drawing<br />

where 10 members received prizes to celebrate<br />

their accomplishment and dedication to nursing<br />

excellence.<br />

KNA School <strong>Nurse</strong> Task Force<br />

Members of the KNA School <strong>Nurse</strong> Task Force are<br />

promoting the importance of school nurses in every<br />

school every day with Dr. Jason Glass, commissioner<br />

for the Department of Education, and with the<br />

Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman, as well as<br />

the superintendents of schools. <strong>Nurse</strong>s across the<br />

state regularly attend Dr. Glass’ virtual town hall<br />

meetings.<br />

Members have applied for a grant to fund<br />

studying the outcomes for children in schools that<br />

have a dedicated school nurse in their schools<br />

for their sustainability. Members are also seeking<br />

Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security<br />

(CARES) and Elementary and Secondary School<br />

Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds to place nurses in<br />

schools for the next budgeted year.<br />

KNA Western Chapter<br />

Murray State University and Western <strong>Kentucky</strong><br />

Community & Technical College (WKCTC) KNA<br />

members recently participated in several COVID-19<br />

vaccine clinics in the chapter’s service area which<br />

includes Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Crittenden,<br />

Fulton, Graves, Hickman Livingston, Lyon, Marshall<br />

and McCracken counties.<br />

Students in the area who joined KNA as Student<br />

Subscribers in January and February were entered<br />

into a drawing to win $50 gift cards. <strong>Nurse</strong> faculty<br />

members that joined KNA in May also were entered<br />

into drawing for $50 gift cards. WKCTC first<br />

semester nursing students will join KNA during their<br />

orientation on Monday, August 16.<br />

Several chapter members attended the <strong>Kentucky</strong><br />

League of Nursing’s virtual conference in May.<br />

considered for publication in <strong>Kentucky</strong> <strong>Nurse</strong>.<br />

• Articles may be submitted in one of the<br />

following categories:<br />

A. Personal opinion/experience, anecdotal<br />

(Editorial Review)<br />

B. Research/scholarship/clinical/professional<br />

issue (Classic Peer Review)<br />

C. Accent on Research (Editorial Review)<br />

D. Cultural Diversity (Editorial Review)<br />

• Information about IRB or Ethical Board approval is<br />

a requirement for Quality Improvement projects,<br />

evidence practice based projects, and research<br />

studies.<br />

• All articles, except research abstracts, must<br />

be accompanied by a signed <strong>Kentucky</strong> <strong>Nurse</strong><br />

transfer of copyright form (available from KNA<br />

office or on website www.<strong>Kentucky</strong>-<strong>Nurse</strong>s.<br />

org) when submitted for review.<br />

• Articles will be reviewed only if accompanied<br />

by the signed transfer of copyright form and<br />

will be considered for publication on condi tion<br />

that they are submitted solely to the <strong>Kentucky</strong><br />

<strong>Nurse</strong>.<br />

• Articles should be typewritten with double<br />

spacing on one side of 8 1/2 x 11. Maximum<br />

length is five (5) typewritten pages.<br />

• Articles should also be submitted electronically<br />

• Articles should include a cover page with the<br />

author’s name(s), title(s), affiliation(s), and<br />

complete address.<br />

• Style must conform to the Publication Manual<br />

of the APA, 7th edi tion.<br />

• Monetary payment is not provided for articles.<br />

• Receipt of articles will be acknowledged by<br />

email to the author(s). Following review, the<br />

author(s) will be notified of acceptance or rejection.<br />

• The <strong>Kentucky</strong> <strong>Nurse</strong> editors reserve the right to<br />

make final editorial changes to meet publication<br />

deadlines.<br />
