to serve on the KLN Nominating Committee.
The chapter Fundraising Committee will raffle a
“Summer Fun Basket” with proceeds going toward a
local charity. Chapter Officers include:

KNA REACH Chapter
The KNA REACH Chapter recently hosted a CE
program, “You’ve Been Elected to Serve on a Health-
Related Board – Now What?” The offering was
facilitated by Matthew Hunt, EdD. Chapter officers
include:

- Kim Riddle, PhD(c), MSN, RN, SANE, CEN,
EMT-B, vice-chair

KNA River City Chapter
The River City Chapter members to work
with community members to present continuing
education opportunities with proceeds benefitting
charities. In January, the chapter hosted a CE
program, “Blessings in a Backpack – Who Will
Feed the Children this Weekend?” and garnered
$600 to benefit the non-profit. The chapter’s
next presentation, facilitated by Matthew
LaRocco, manager of Norton Hospital’s Harm
Reduction Program, “One of These People is
Not Like the Other,” noon-1pm, Monday, June
21 with proceeds going to the Kentucky Nurses
Foundation (KNF).
River City Chapter members are helping with
COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics through
the KNA Office, the local health department and
other community organizations. Chapter members
participated in a community health fair providing
blood pressure screenings and education.
To celebrate Nurses Month, River City Chapter
members randomly selected four members

each Friday to receive a prize. At each meeting,
members who bring a non-KNA member nurse
friend are entered in a drawing to win a prize or
gift card. The chapter presents its first scholarship
opportunity by providing a $500 scholarship for
a River City Chapter member pursuing a graduate
degree and a $250 scholarship for a Student
Subscriber pursuing an undergraduate degree. The
chapter will also offer KNA Summit scholarships
for first time conference/summit attendees and has
developed a student liaison team to communicate
with schools of nursing to increase Student
Subscriber participation.
To celebrate National Certification Day,
members were asked to complete a survey to
make the chapter aware of their certification. A
total of 44 members participated sharing their
certification and were entered in a drawing
where 10 members received prizes to celebrate
their accomplishment and dedication to nursing
excellence.

KNA School Nurse Task Force
Members of the KNA School Nurse Task Force are
promoting the importance of school nurses in every
school every day with Dr. Jason Glass, commissioner
for the Department of Education, and with the
Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman, as well as
the superintendents of schools. Nurses across the
state regularly attend Dr. Glass’ virtual town hall
meetings.
Members have applied for a grant to fund
studying the outcomes for children in schools that
have a dedicated school nurse in their schools
for their sustainability. Members are also seeking
Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security
(CARES) and Elementary and Secondary School
Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds to place nurses in
schools for the next budgeted year.
KNA Western Chapter
Murray State University and Western Kentucky
Community & Technical College (WKCTC) KNA
members recently participated in several COVID-19
vaccine clinics in the chapter’s service area which
includes Ballard, Calloway, Carlisle, Crittenden,
Fulton, Graves, Hickman Livingston, Lyon, Marshall
and McCracken counties.
Students in the area who joined KNA as Student
Subscribers in January and February were entered
into a drawing to win $50 gift cards. Nurse faculty
members that joined KNA in May also were entered
into drawing for $50 gift cards. WKCTC first
semester nursing students will join KNA during their
orientation on Monday, August 16.
Several chapter members attended the Kentucky
League of Nursing’s virtual conference in May.

submission articles to be reviewed and
considered for publication in Kentucky Nurse.
• Articles may be submitted in one of the
following categories:
A. Personal opinion/experience, anecdotal
(Editorial Review)
B. Research/scholarship/clinical/professional
issue (Classic Peer Review)
C. Accent on Research (Editorial Review)
D. Cultural Diversity (Editorial Review)
E. Health Matters (Editorial Review)
F. Student Spotlight (Editorial Review)
• Information about IRB or Ethical Board approval is
a requirement for Quality Improvement projects,
evidence practice based projects, and research
studies.
• All articles, except research abstracts, must
be accompanied by a signed Kentucky Nurse
transfer of copyright form (available from KNA
office or on website www.Kentucky-Nurses.
org) when submitted for review.
• Articles will be reviewed only if accompanied
by the signed transfer of copyright form and
will be considered for publication on condi tion
that they are submitted solely to the Kentucky
Nurse.
• Articles should be typewritten with double
spacing on one side of 8 1/2 x 11. Maximum
length is five (5) typewritten pages.
• Articles should also be submitted electronically
• Articles should include a cover page with the
author’s name(s), title(s), affiliation(s), and
complete address.
• Style must conform to the Publication Manual
of the APA, 7th edi tion.
• Monetary payment is not provided for articles.
• Receipt of articles will be acknowledged by
email to the author(s). Following review, the
author(s) will be notified of acceptance or rejection.
• The Kentucky Nurse editors reserve the right to
make final editorial changes to meet publication
deadlines.
• Please complete a manuscript checklist
to ensure all requirements are met. You
must provide a completed checklist when
a manuscript is submitted. The Manuscript
