A MESSAGE FROM THE GWSA
BOARD
Over fifty members attended the 34 th Annual General Meeting on
June 8. It was fascinating to hear about the impressive work of the
GWSA Community Support Services which helped so many
vulnerable seniors through a challenging year. Everyone was
informed of our financial situation which emerged on solid footing,
even with memberships on pause, thanks to all the support we
receive. We are especially appreciative of the ongoing, generous
support the GWSA receives from the City of Guelph and its staff.
At the AGM, the Board thanked Athar Khan for his years of service,
and the members elected one new director, Teresa McKeeman. At
the Board’s first meeting following the AGM, Becky Fiedler moved
to the role of Past-President, and Brian Smith was elected President.
Roger Stevens remains Treasurer, Tonie MacInnis Secretary, and
Adam Rutherford continues to represent the City of Guelph. Pat
Gage joins the Executive Committee. The remaining directors
include Ken Fugler, Wenda King, Ross Knechtel, Teresa
McKeeman, and Mike Woof. Some vacancies remain on the Board
of Directors and its committees for those who want to join this
dynamic group. Contact the volunteer co-ordinator to learn more.
Much is happening to prepare for the reopening of in-person
activities. The City has been completing some renovations, and
colourful window decals along the hall provide a bright, refreshing
look. It is encouraging to see new paint and lighting, room
improvements, and interesting changes unfolding for the Evergreen
Kitchen. A New Horizons for Seniors Grant funded the new
livestreaming video-recording studio which is almost ready for action
to facilitate our growing virtual activities. There really is a lot to get
excited about!
Members are concerned about how they can ‘return-to-play’ safely.
That’s why the Board has approved policies which will require all
participants of in-person activities to provide Proof of COVID-19
Vaccination, and to complete the COVID-19 Liability Waiver. You
may encounter COVID-19 Screening for certain activities as is
needed to fill a bus for the planned trip to Gravenhurst. The GWSA
will continue to offer virtual activities to allow more participants than
room capacity limits will allow; to accommodate members who do
not yet wish to gather in person; and to those who cannot, or choose
not to, receive COVID-19 vaccinations.
