A special primary election on Aug. 3 will determine
which candidates will vie for Ohio’s U.S. 15th Congressional
District seat in the Nov. 2 general election. Steve Stivers,
a Republican, vacated the seat in May to take a job as
president and CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
Eleven Republicans and two Democrats are running
in the primary election. The winners in their respective
parties will face off in November.
The Republican candidates are: John Adams, Mike
Carey, Eric Clark, Thad Cooperrider, Ruth Edmonds,
Ron Hood, Thomas Hwang, Stephanie Kunze, Jeff
LaRe, Bob Peterson, and Omar Tarazi.
“The Madison County Republican Party overwhelmingly
endorsed Bob Peterson for Congress,” said Nicholas
Adkins, chair of the Madison County Republican Central
Committee. “We stand with many others in our belief
that his principled and experienced leadership is the conservative
voice that best represents Madison County.”
Peterson graduated from The Ohio State University
with a degree in agriculture. He served as president of
the Ohio Farm Bureau for nearly five years and as
Fayette County commissioner for 14 years. He was
elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2011,
representing District 85. In 2012, he joined the Ohio
Senate; he represents the 17th Senate District.
The Democratic candidates are: Greg Betts and Allison
Russo. The Madison County Democratic Party
plans to announce which candidate they endorse after
meeting and speaking with both candidates in person
on July 24, said Anne Gorman, party chair.
