Exhibition at ex-M&S
Members of Ashton Art Group have a new home for this
year’s exhibition, and it’s somewhere close to the heart of
Wigan shoppers – the old Marks and Spencers store.
The group usually hold their annual exhibition at
St. Thomas’ Church Hall in Ashton, but the church is
undergoing construction work, so the group is moving
temporarily for 2021 to a huge space in the Grand Arcade
in Wigan that was part of the former Marks and Spencer
shop.
From Saturday 2nd October until Saturday 9th October,
the exhibition will be open each day between 10am and
4pm and entry, as usual, is free.
Members of the group are looking forward to welcoming
their friends and supporters from Ashton whilst hoping
to attract new interest from Wigan and the surrounding
area.
Paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolour, drawing, mixed
media and print will all be represented. Subjects include
landscape and local views, portrait, still life, figure study
and animals and may be figurative or abstract. Don’t
miss the chance to drop in to view the exhibition, chat
with members about their work and find out more about
joining in!
Most of the work will be for sale, so it’s a good chance
to pick up an early Christmas present for your family or
friends.
Ashton Art Group meets in the Childcare and Community
Centre (formerly YMCA) in Hilton Street, Ashton in
Makerfield on Tuesday evenings at 8pm. There is a varied
programme of portrait, figure and life study, still life,
outdoor sketching, demonstrations and workshops and
some lively social occasions.
New members are always welcome to join this friendly
group and there is always somebody willing to help
newer artists to develop their talents.
