50 Places for Everyone Wigan Council are working in partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and all other Greater Manchester districts (except Stockport) to prepare a joint development plan called Places for Everyone. This plan replaces the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework which is no longer being taken forward following the withdrawal of Stockport Council from the joint plan in December 2020. Places for Everyone is a long-term plan for jobs, new homes, and sustainable growth and will help meet the city-region’s needs up until 2037. For further information on the Plan and the supporting evidence, and to submit comments, please visit the allocations, including the land at M6 Junction 25. Land at M6 Junction 25 is proposed to consist of around 140,000 square metres of employment floorspace. Planning permission for employment development was granted on this site in July 2021. Delivery in accordance with this planning approval is not dependent on the site’s allocation in the Places for Everyone Plan. Its allocation in the new plan will remove the site from the Green Belt. A hard copy of the Places for Everyone Plan can be viewed at both Wigan Library and Leigh Library. This consultation closes on the 3rd October 2021. In relation to jobs and housing specifically within the in Lowton, land north of Mosley Common and land west of Gibfield in Atherton. Place for Everyone also proposes to add six tracts of land to the area’s existing Green Belt, the largest of which is the Hope Carr Nature Reserve in Leigh.
