Schoolboy pens War Novel<br />
An Orrell schoolboy<br />
wrote a war book during<br />
lockdown and says he<br />
has several more in the<br />
pipeline.<br />
Fourteen-year-old<br />
George Birch from<br />
Sandford Road in Tontine,<br />
a pupil at St Peter’s High<br />
School, wrote ‘Allies and<br />
Axis’ in just 2½ months<br />
last summer, and the<br />
book was published this<br />
summer by AuthorHouse<br />
UK.<br />
The story follows the<br />
tragic lives of Edward,<br />
Matthew and George<br />
as they experience two<br />
world wars and nuclear<br />
annihilation. The story<br />
was inspired by George’s<br />
great-grandad Edward<br />
Taylor, who died shortly after the second World War, and<br />
was fuelled by watching historic war programmes on TV<br />
and on DVDS.<br />
George’s Grandad, Bernard Birch, who financed the<br />
publication of Allies and<br />
Axis, takes up the story.<br />
“George came to me<br />
one day and just told me<br />
he was going to write a<br />
book and the next thing<br />
I know, he had finished<br />
it”.<br />
George adds “The story<br />
started off on a single<br />
piece of paper and the<br />
storyline developed<br />
from there. I just put<br />
a plan of the story on<br />
paper and then worked<br />
on it day and night until<br />
it was finished”.<br />
George, whose spare<br />
time is usually spent<br />
playing X-Box and PC<br />
games, says that he put<br />
his hobbies to one side<br />
whilst he finished the<br />
book. “I’m a doer”, says history buff George, “I would like<br />
to turn this story into a six-part sequel”.<br />
‘Allies and Axis’ is on sale now via Amazon, available on<br />
Kindle, and in softback and hardback.<br />
