TWO FROM TWO FOR IRELAND U20S<br />

The Ireland U20s have enjoyed a super<br />

start to their U20s Six Nations campaign,<br />

claiming a dramatic 16-17 win over France<br />

in Provence last Friday night to add to their<br />

opening round win over Wales in Cork on 4<br />

February.<br />

Despite trailing by 10 points during the first<br />

half, Ireland fought back with a first half try<br />

from James McCormick (Ballymena RFC)<br />

which was converted by Charlie Tector<br />

(Lansdowne FC), leaving the score 10-7 at<br />

half time. Ben Brownlee (UCD) crossed in<br />

the 79th minute for Ireland’s second try,<br />

with Tector slotting the conversion and<br />

match winner.<br />

The win against France was only the second<br />

ever win for the Ireland U20s on French soil<br />

– the last time was in 2012.<br />

<strong>Munster</strong> duo Patrick Campbell (Young<br />

<strong>Munster</strong>) and Ethan Coughlan (Shannon)<br />

were both named on the starting team with<br />

Darragh McSweeney (Shannon) and Conor<br />

Moloney (Young <strong>Munster</strong>) coming off the<br />

bench to play their part in what was<br />

Friday 4 February<br />

Ireland 53-5 Wales, Musgrave Park<br />

their Six Nations debut for the former PBC<br />

student McSweeney and Ennis RFC man<br />

Moloney.<br />

Full-back Campbell, out-half Tony Butler<br />

(Garryowen) and scrum-half Coughlan<br />

made their <strong>Munster</strong> debuts against Wasps<br />

in the Champions Cup in December and<br />

are all members of the Greencore <strong>Munster</strong><br />

<strong>Rugby</strong> Academy.<br />

Tony Butler was named on the bench but<br />

was not used on this occasion. However, he<br />

did see action off the bench against Wales<br />

the previous week alongside Coughlan<br />

and Highfield’s Ronan O’Sullivan who is a<br />

former CBC student. Patrick Campbell lined<br />

out at full-back against Wales.<br />

The Ireland U20s, sponsored by PwC,<br />

got off to a first night flyer with a recordbreaking<br />

53-5 win over Wales, maintaining<br />

their unbeaten run in Cork since they first<br />

played there in 2019.<br />
