Winter Season in the Oberharz Alpine skiing Cross-country skiing Sledding, snow tubing and more In Altenau and Torfhaus you can find practice slopes and beautiful descents served by lifts, as well ski and snowboard schools and a ski rental. The Ski-Alpinum in Schulenberg offers 4 downhill slopes, a practice slope- served by two double T-bar lifts- and a snowboard fun park. The neighboring towns of Braunlage and Sankt Andreasberg also offer large alpine ski and snowboard centres. The winter heart of the Oberharz locals beats above all for cross-country skiing. And that is no surprise! Most of the tracks are prepared for classic cross country, but skaterswill also get their money‘s worth. A highlight in Clausthal-Zellerfeld is the illuminated skating track of the county’s biathlon training centreinternationally successful winter sport athletes from the Harz region come to train here! Floodlit tracks can also be found in Buntenbock. Every place in the Oberharz has its own sledding chute and winter hiking trails. Particularly popular with families with children is the sledding chute “Brockenblick”, served by a lift, on Torfhaus and the chute beside the skiing slope “Rose” in Altenau. Get a special sledding kick on the first snow tubing facility of the Harz in Sankt Andreasberg. Guided hikes lit by torchlights are very romanticthey can be booked through the tourist information offices in the Oberharz.
