The Revolution: Hear all about it
The Haddonfield Skirmish Committee is
partnering with Camden County College to present
a series of lectures about the American Revolution,
from the perspective of our communities.
The series is part of the build-up for the Sat Jun 4
Skirmish on Kings Highway.
Doug Rauschenberger will present the second
lecture in the series, “Close to Home: Haddonfield
in the American Revolution,” in the Borough Hall at
7pm on Wed Apr 6,
This talk will cover the military history of the
Haddonfield area during the American Revolution.
It will include Von Donop’s stay on his way to Red
Bank, and the British route through Haddonfield
on the way back to New York. It will also touch on
the role of the Quaker Meeting, and how divisive
the war was for the local community. (A number
of people were “read out” of the Meeting for
participation in the war.)
Doug Rauschenberger has a BA in history and
an MS in library science. He is co-historian of
Haddonfield, a former director of the Public Library,
and a former president of the Historical Society of
Haddonfield. He is the co-author of Lost Haddonfield
and of Haddonfield: Images of America.
Details about the Skirmish, and the lecture
series in particular, may be found here n, or on the
website of the Friends of the Indian King Tavern
Museum: IndianKingFriends.org.
