Many schools routinely highlight their merits and strengths via
various mediums in the public domain that are instrumental in
creating the desired perceptions of their institutions. However,
whilst advertising permits the creation of an impressive visual and
written representation of a school, conveying its essence, the abstract
quality that truly defines it, is a somewhat more challenging endeavour.
The prevailing culture in a
school and the impact this has
on the efficacy of teaching and
learning is a crucial indicator of
success, arguably more so than
an impressive array of physical
amenities and academic, sporting
and cultural options. Although
John Wesley School is blessed
with incredible facilities, our
fundamental belief is that the
essence of our success, and our
most important
defining feature, is
our Christian ethos
and the prevailing
staff culture that it
has engendered.
We have eight staff
members that have
served our school
for more than
twenty years, with
three exceeding
thirty years of service, and one
exceeding forty years of service.
This includes three teachers
who are even more passionate
and motivated today than they
were when they started their
careers. Such loyalty is only
evident in working environments
that are happy, afford regular
opportunities for personal
expression and growth and in
which mutual love and respect
abounds.
Like any good school, we have
a very clearly defined hierarchy
to manage and co-ordinate daily
operations, however, the lines of
JWS is a
school with
a rich history
of inspiring
positive
change in
South Africa.
authority become blurred when
our colleagues interact with each
other on a personal level. No
matter what your designation, be
it principal, teacher, administrator
or general assistant, we all share
in each other’s joys and triumphs,
we support each other through
hardship and we mourn each
other’s losses.
This attitude manifests in the
demeanour of our
staff members and is
massively influential in
our classrooms as we
pursue our collective
mission to produce
remarkable young
men and women, who
are not just academics,
but compassionate
individuals who
are capable of
transforming society.
If our staff members are the
calibre of men and women
you wish to entrust with your
child’s intellectual, emotional
and spiritual development, then
John Wesley School is the natural
choice for you.
Our admissions process for
2023 has been simplified and
has been taken online via an
online application form at www.
jwesleyptn.co.za. Applications are
also processed in-office for those
who cannot access the online
platform. We are situated at 30
In 2021, numerous upgrades added immeasurable value to
our campus giving our boys the opportunity to use their
potential to perform to the best of their ability in every sphere
of school life, to ultimately fulfil their potential.
This included upgraded cricket nets, an outdoor multi-sport
court with stands for an extended Grade 10 break area.
Huberta House had a complete overhaul as the Grade 8
Boarding House and the Matric break area was revamped
into an incredible space for our Grade 12s.
2022 has already started on a positive note with the Grade 9
classrooms being completely transformed. Bowden’s Sports
Pavilion has undergone significant changes. The Grade 11
break area has also had a facelift, and our Cricket Academy
is due for completion by the end of August. A second
boarding house is due for an upgrade, which will add
to parking on the school grounds as well.
These campus upgrades are vital to maintain Westville Boys’
reputation as a high school that consistently has
representatives at KZN and SA level in both academics and
sport.
