This time of year is Mud season. Starting around later September to<br />
December it tends to be particularly busy with the heavy stuff running<br />
around stocking up retailers in preparation for the Christmas season.<br />
It never ceases to amaze me with units and trailers pulling off the<br />
road to either make deliveries or attempt to manoeuvre into better<br />
positions.<br />
Often it doesn’t end well! Days or weeks of rain soaking into the grass<br />
verge never seem to deter some drivers. Multiple daily winch outs are<br />
the norm in Mud season.<br />
On the other end of the scale are the breakdowns. Loaded artic units<br />
and low loaders are common. If possible the removal of the trailer<br />
onto another working unit is preferred. Dealers in these neck of the<br />
woods can rarely accommodate both unit & trailer combinations let<br />
alone when a heavy wrecker is attached to the front.<br />
When recovering combinations the road network is another issue.<br />
There are a number of locations in the South where one has had to<br />
get rather imaginative with the street furniture. Road bollards, signs<br />
and other items restricting access are encountered daily. No thought<br />
seems to have been given to large goods vehicles and even less<br />
thought given when they break down and need a tow!<br />
