Barnsley based Watts and Associates have specialised in<br />
plant and machinery auctions for over 25 years and have<br />
recently added classic cars to their lots to expand their offer.<br />
Owners John and Colin took over the<br />
business in 2006, bringing with them vast<br />
knowledge and experience as approachable and<br />
honest auctioneers.<br />
John was first introduced to auctions as a lad,<br />
joining his family at cattle markets. He then started<br />
selling aged 16 for a Holmfirth based agricultural<br />
auctioneers before moving up to Cumbria<br />
where he became a machinery specialist for a<br />
livestock auction house. Schoolfriend Colin had<br />
followed a similar path, having run a contracting<br />
business previously.<br />
Based in Carlton on an eight-acre site, they<br />
hold a three-day online auction every six weeks.<br />

and generators. They also have a range of garden<br />
and ground maintenance machinery such as rideon<br />
mowers, tillers, and petrol tools like strimmers<br />
and leaf blowers.<br />
Many of the plant and machinery lots offered<br />
for sale have come from some of the UK’s largest<br />
and well-known companies when they renew<br />
their fleets. The equipment is often high spec,<br />
high value and also very difficult to get hold of, so<br />
auctions are a great opportunity for tradespeople<br />
to add to their fleet and stock in a more costeffective<br />
way than buying brand new.<br />
As well as commercial lots, Watts also auction<br />
off vintage vehicles. Whether you’re looking for<br />
a classic car to drive daily, take on a spin at<br />
weekends, or keep in the garage as a restoration<br />
project, you might just find the perfect motor for<br />
you at Watts’ next auction.<br />
In the past, their lots have included iconic<br />
cars from luxury manufacturers like Rolls Royce,<br />
Studebaker, Chrysler Imperial, Jaguar, Bentley<br />
and MG. They attract a diverse range of buyers<br />
from across the globe, with a Maserati recently<br />
selling to a buyer in Finland.<br />
