VILLAGE OPEN GARDENS
This is Reading Street’s fourth
open garden event. Gardens range
from a small cottage garden to
an award-winning wildlife one,
a fairy garden for the little ones
and Taddy’s Allotments. All
gardens are within 5-10 minutes
walk from St Andrew’s Church.
There will be plants and produce
sales. Refreshments and lunches
will also be available in the
Community Hall to eat in or take
away. Tickets are available from
various points in the village.

AT THE THATCHED HOUSE
Friends of Smarden Church
invite you to enjoy Drinks in
the Garden with the price of

Egg. The Thatched House was
used as a location for the Agatha
Christie film, The Mirror Cracked,

visit this special garden. You

Join designer Cath Kidston
Padgham MBE, in conversation
with fellow entrepreneur and
fragrance lover, Jo Fairley in the
Carnation Glasshouse at the
sublime Water Lane. They’ll
chat about Cath’s passion for
pelargoniums, fragrance and the
garden, which led to C.Atherley,
her new bath and beauty brand.
The ticket can also add two
courses and either a glass of
wine or a homemade cordial
from Water Lane restaurant after
the talk at a combined price of
£55. Following the talk there
will also be the opportunity to
take a short, guided tour of the
Water Lane Cutting Garden.

COMTEMPORARY
CRAFT FAIR
This summer the Sussex Guild
returns to exhibit inspiring work
in a village of small marquees
on the lawns of the Azalea Ring
at Borde Hill. Visitors will be
treated to spectacular examples of
ceramics, furniture, glass, jewellery,
metalwork, textile art, woodwork
and more; most of which
can be purchased or specially
commissioned. Some makers will
be demonstrating, giving visitors
the chance to see the well-honed
skills in making high-end crafts.
Visitors are encouraged to prebook
their visit in advance and by
booking at least a day in advance
a £1 online discount will be
applied at the time of booking.

TASTE OF SMARDEN
Taste of Smarden is an
annual event run by Smarden
Community Store to celebrate
all of the great local products
made in Kent and Sussex.
Since its inception, the range of
foods, wines and beers available
to sample and buy has grown
dramatically. It’s a day out for
the whole family with children’s
activities, a barbecue, a beer
and prosecco bar, strawberries
and cream and a great band.
Visitors to Taste of Smarden and
the Community Store will find
friendly faces and fabulous food
in one of Kent’s prettiest villages.

VEHICLE RALLY
This ever-popular event promises
to bring together a fantastically
diverse range of vehicles including
cars, buses, bikes and commercial
vehicles from the early 1900s
to the modern day, the event
has become a much-loved
tradition for the local Romney
Marsh community and visitors
alike. Expect a day filled with
entertainment including arena
events, auto-jumble, displays and
refreshments, all while admiring
the stunning vehicles on display.
