Somerhill is celebrating the
first birthday of Saplings
Saplings is a programme launched last
summer to complement Somerhill’s existing
Pre-School offering and build relevant life skills.
From resilience and risk taking, to problem solving
and teamwork, the interweaving of Saplings into the
children’s Pre-School EYFS experience has been a winner!
Sarah Woodgate, Saplings Lead said, “At Saplings, children
can lead their own learning and explore in the peace and quiet
of nature without a schedule. It has been incredible to watch
each child build confidence, find their voice and be brave!
We have noticed that they are then able to transfer
this confidence back into the classroom.” Parental
feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with
over 80 children signed up for Saplings’
sessions on a weekly basis. It is so good for
their mental health to be out in nature.

Surrey school children
support local Hospital Charity
On the final day of Spring half term, pupils
at Danes Hill School in Surrey, held their
annual Charities Day. This year they fundraised
for Brompton Fountain Charity and reached a
spectacular £3,774.80. The Brompton Fountain supports
the treatment and care of seriously ill children, working
closely with Royal Brompton Hospital’s paediatric teams. At
the start of the term, representatives from the charity visited the
school and told pupils about their life-changing work. On
Charities Day the children, teachers, and parents came
together to set up stalls in classrooms and spend their
pocket money on hook a duck, Wordle challenges,
find the golden carrot and much more. The
staff got involved in a fitness challenge
in which they ran, jogged, walked,
and cycled 173.15km in total.
