“If you already have
a gallery wall, then think about
adding some new prints or switching up
older ones to revitalise the space. We have an
eclectic mix of witty and whimsical limited-edition
prints to make your walls anything but ordinary. Even
if space is short, there’s always room for more artwork!
You can never have too much colour, print and texture
in a room in our opinion, so don’t be afraid to layer
up and hang artwork on top of bold, patterned
wallpaper for a space packed with personality.”
5 Top Tips from Belgravia Gallery
Managing Director of Belgravia Gallery, Laura Walford tells us how to best add art to your interior scheme
Decorating a home with art can be daunting – where
to start? There’s so much to consider – style, size,
colours, medium, framing, and of course, cost. We
invest huge amounts of time, energy and money into
our homes and art is often something only thought
about at the end. Here’s some of our key advice:
Start with the art
We believe that it’s art that makes your house a home and
that if you can, it’s a good idea to consider what you will
have on your walls from the beginning of a project – don’t
leave it as an afterthought at the end.
Framing
You don’t always need to buy completely new pieces to
update the art in your home. Have a look at what you
already have and consider new frames. So many people
move home or renovate and think they don’t like what they
already have – but a new frame really can breathe a new
lease of life into an artwork. Framing can be expensive but
is definitely worth it.
Break it down
Take it room by room. Start with your most used room
(kitchen or living room for most people), with the key
spaces such as above the sofa or over the fireplace. Search
online for galleries locally and take an afternoon to go and
have a look in them – there is nothing like seeing work in
the flesh to judge whether you actually like it.
Don’t be intimidated
Buying art which you will live with for a long time can feel
intimidating. Ask lots of questions, don’t be afraid to voice
your thoughts and negotiate a price!
Use a professional installer
They don’t cost a fortune and make so much difference to
the overall feel of how the art looks. Try Pembridge Services
(pembridgeservices.com) Joby is great and can help you create
the most amazing gallery wall displays all evenly spaced and
straight. Not easy on your own!
